ASPI Settings in EAC

Post by Akai Rurouni » Sat Jul 03, 2004 11:22 am

Ok, so I'm extracting my audio for my first AMV... (Yea! :D )

I'm doing this on WindowsXP Home. (Yeah, Home. I know. It's what came on the PC and I don't have enough money to buy Pro right now. :P ) My DVD/CD-R drive is not a SCSI device (it's a Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-R2512 to be exact).

I installed EAC and ran ForceASPI. Now in the EAC settings, EAC->EAC Options... (F9), on the Interface tab there is a Use of SCSI Interface setting:

Installed external ASPI interface
or
(greyed out) Installed external ASPI interface (from VOB software)
or
Native Win32 interface for Win NT/2000/XP

Is this the setting to use the ASPI layer?
"Native Win32 interface" is selected by default. Do I need to change it to "Instaled external ASPI interface"? :?

Thanks! :)

I found a good website for information about EAC:
http://elitedae.cjb.net/

So from that and a little other web browsing, I found out that this is in fact the setting to use the ASPI layer, as I suspected.

Now here's my new question: All the info on the web said that "Native Win32 interface" works fine for Windows XP. I didn't find any info suggesting using ASPI with Windows XP (unless you're having a problem for some reason). However, The Guide strongly recommends using ASPI on Windows 2000/XP, even though it is not required. Is ASPI better in some way (vs. Native Win32)? Or is it less likely to have problems? Why does The Guide recommend using ASPI with EAC?

ASPI layer isnt required any more for EAC but it is very useful for many other programs.

That's why the guide says "no longer required" and yet advises it.

Ah, I understand now. :) I misunderstood The Guide to mean install ASPI _and_ set EAC to use ASPI (as opposed to install ASPI, but use Native Win32 for EAC anyway).

So I guess I've already done the right thing. Cool. 8)

Thanks for the help, AbsoluteDestiny!
