automatic limitations

Post by madmag9999 » Thu Jul 01, 2004 1:16 am

why not institue automatic limitations for sig size? avatar size and also limit the amount of consecutive leters that can be said. like phade did with the letter o. i think this way we would eliminate all the noobs who break the sig and ava size. and all the helppppppppppp meeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111111 threads. if u limited the number of consecutive letters to say 2 then it would be enough.

Is there any way for the system to detect that a certain image that's been linked to is too big?

I've seen forums like that, and I don't know the first thing about php coding, so I have no idea what to do, but a method does exist.

If it's a global rule, you should probably allow at least 3 in a row. I imagine that rule would be applied to all characters, and you don't want to rule out "..." or "!!!" for example.

That o-contraction thing I think is implemented in the same way a language filter on another board might be- so instead of replacing 'shit' with 'sh!t', it replaces eight consecutive o's with oooooooo. Doing that with images is a whole different kettle of fish.

but i know its posible. and i dont know why they chose seven. why not just go with 2 o's thats all u need for any word youd ever want to spell. and theres no need for going OOOOOOO. there is also a filter on one word, all the oters will remember... a girl with pretty eyes

I don't think the char limit will work, because what if a title or sig calls for lots of the same character o or 0 for instance in an intelligent manner. Then you just screwed it up for the poster.

give me one example were that would be necesery. besides in showing large numbers. in that case you can spell it out. for instance one million, insted of going 1000000 and so forth. i dont see a need for useing that many consecutive letters/numbers, it just pisses ppl of including me.

WIth the letter replacements, I don't see why we should implement something that will likely often hinder common useage when really the solution is to smack whoever breaks the forum limits around the head and tell them to not do it again.

As for the sig stuff... if there's software and it doesnt cause too much processor use then I suppose it could be implemented but I think it would be too much checking and would slow everything down.
