So what?

If the source just isn't there yet, and you want to make a music video out of it, what are you gonna do? Wait 9 months for release, or do something that might create a $10 fine on the legal end.

I'm just playing devil's advocate here, nothing personal. I just have to laugh at people who think getting the footage they want is an ESSENTIAL NEED, like water and oxygen.

The footage I need for my AWA expo vid is an essential need.... too bad the bootlegs of it that exist can only go as high as vhs/laserdisc recordings and the actual dvd comes out 10 days before the expo deadline...

But I can still wait.

Way i see it is, if you BUY the stuff when it comes out here, or you have the way to buy it, you're in the clear.

If you never buy it, and never plan on buying it, you're pretty odd.

Agreed, Unless you just don't want to support the HKers. Interesting how I've seen HK bootlegs shown at cons in the past. Cowboy beepop movie is an example, and I think it was AWA that showed it.

On the note of downloaded footage, As far as titles that arn;t available state side, I have no problems with people using them on an ethical standpoint. Its just the same as downloading fansubs. THose who condemn them are also condemning fansubs theoretically. You could argue that with the fansubs you need the translations is why you download them, but if you don;t buy the R2s also, your still not supporting the artist, which leads to the same outcome as not buying them for the AMVs. The point that I do care about though is quality, and that is the major cavet I see in using downloaded footage, hence why you will never see me using it, unless I am REALY depserate to use a specific footage source, and there is absolutely no other way to obtain it. Even then, I won't use it if I cannot clean up the footage to an acceptable level using filters and/or frame by frame editing.

Congrats for waiting. But no, it's not an essential need. If anyone has literally died because they didn't make an AMV they wanted to right away, please show me the evidence.

I mean, hello? Roof over your head and enough food to eat. That's "need." AMVs? Hobby. Want. Not need. Want.

Perspective, folks.

I've been sitting on a favorite idea of mine for over a year now because I haven't gotten around to buying the footage - it's a series I only kindasorta like, and there are a lot of series I want much more than that. Yet I haven't DIED for putting off making a frigging AMV. Wonder how I managed making it through the day?

i'm not saying its a matter of life and death, but is it really that bad? so i download a fricken video so i can make a fricken AMV. big deal....i have other ideas but i dont try to be superman and make them all at once...i wanna make this video so i do....i know i wont die if i dont but if i wanna do it, THE I WILL FRICKEN DO IT! besides, i know i'm not the only member to have ever used downloaded footage, but its something i wanna do and if thats what other people wanna do it, then do it. GET OVER IT!
