I forgot to mention that WMM won't take AVISynth files; you have to wrap them using MakeAVIs (I just read somewhere that it now comes with AVISynth). What this does is create a fake AVI file that WMM can read.
If it doesn't work with "store file name", switch it to "store script", or vice versa (don't remember the exact options).
Also, you'll have to add the line ConvertToRGB32() at the end of your AVISynth scripts before doing this. WMM and Windows Explorer (if you've enabled video previews) will both crash otherwise.
And as for the guide thing, I think it would be easier to incorporate it into the overarching all things A/V guide, under a section that's specific to WMM.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but when I was working with WMM1, it letterboxed my 352x240 footage to make it 4:3 instead of compressing it horizontally (with the result that the subtitles were well nigh illegible and it just looked ugly), and I'm operating under the assumption that WMM2 does the same thing when I say:
After having poked around in the beta guides, the only thing I see missing is some kind of indication that footage coming into WMM should be resized to 640x480, which necessitates slightly different AVISynth scripts than if one was using any program that actually gave a damn about resolution. (Like the ones I just posted for widescreen.) Obviously, if we're working with normal 4:3 or a letterboxed movie, then just LanczosResize(640,480) will do the trick...
Of course, if I'm wrong and WMM actually squashes rather than letterboxes, then the only question is whether WMM does better resizing than AVISynth (but the answer is probably no, which would mean you'd still want to resize anyway).

widescreen
Ok NinjaFox...its ok that you dont know the basics of video encoding and manipulation...I will try to explain the easiest way to get good looking widescreen WITHOUT using AVIsynth...because I don't think that you are ready for it yet.
1) VERY IMPORTANT - make sure the DVD that you are using IS designed for widescreen. Using a DVD that is already in 16:9 video ratio is the only way to get perfect widescreen video. That would amount to roughly 720 by 406. (Either that or a DVD encoded at FILM widescreen which would be about 720 by 344).
2) Use DVD decrypter, DVD2AVI, VFPI codec, and Virtual Dub to rip the DVD (Please check out AbsoluteDestiny's guide to all things video and audio on help with this...its under the quide section of this site).
3) In Virtual Dub...after a ton of steps to get your video to that point...run the filters (deinterlace and resize). If your video is designed to be widescreen at 16:9...then resize to 720 by 406...or whatever combination of sizes you like that amount to 16 divided by 9 (1.77).
4) Damn this is harder to explain than I thought because I don't know what you already know about video...or what you have already done. Hope this was of some help!

Too bad for the 9/10 people who dont (like/dont have) widescreen capabilities, and from those people your overall amv credit will be automatically cut in half.
Think outside the square, yes widescreen would be a good idea if everyone had it, but unfortuinetly well what can I say... blah blah blah you all get the gist of it.
...im going to sleep.
