can i enter a competition which i don't attend?
I feel so bad right now. Theres an anime convention next week and theres a music video competition. its in secaucus New Jersey. Its only a 40 minute drive. I kept putting off my music video. If I ONLY FINISHED IT ON TIME! Now I'm looking at the calender here on anime music videos org and I see that all the competitions are in places where I can't go. Stupid New Jersey. Stupid no car till you're 18 rule from my parents. Anyway Can I enter those competitions without actually going to them. If I win will I get my award or will they be like no.

You refer to AnimeNEXT. I'll be there. Yay for New Jersey.conspheretrix wrote:I feel so bad right now. Theres an anime convention next week and theres a music video competition. its in secaucus New Jersey. Its only a 40 minute drive.

If it doesn't say in the rules for the particular contest that you have to be there, then you don't have to be there. I myself entered 6 contests in the past year that I didn't end up attending (PortConMaine, AWA, NDK, Katsucon, Anime Boston, ACen). I believe most are pretty cool about mailing out awards to non-attending winners (I know I got my award from AniBo in a month or two and didn't have to pay for it), but you might have to pay for shipping, and it might take a long time (the people at NDK weren't able to mail out the two remaining Asukas they had to mail until just a month or two ago, I believe, due to a variety of issues that weren't all their fault).conspheretrix wrote:Anyway Can I enter those competitions without actually going to them. Most contests say it's okay to send if your not attending. However don't go over board. The following are the general rules on if I submit to a convention...
If I'm attending the convention - Yes.
If the convention is local, meaning if you had an anime club they would all go, and you can't go. (Usually due to money or transportation) - Yes. (Your a local creator which is always nice to see).
If the convention is one of the 'Big' conventions where all the 'major' creators tend to compete. (AX, AWA, and Otakon). - Yes
The convention has a limited theme (Shoujo-con, Yaoi-con, a hentai contest a convention.), where the number of entries would be resticted by the 'theme' and your video fits the theme - Yes.
The admins for the contest have specifically asked for more entries/you to enter. - Yes, but still try and e-mail and make sure.
Times you shouldn't enter...
Small conventions, where they get enough 'local' creators. (Because it sucks to go to a convention, expecially a Small and Local one, and the contest is filled with entries of people who don't care about the convention enough to attend, while you spent your time and expecially your money to be there and then your video doesn't get shown.)
When your video has already won several awards.
When your video is over a year old.
When you don't care about the convention.
Ask yourself if you had the money (meaning a reasonable job, where you could maybe fly to one or two conventions a year), would you attend the convention your sending to?
