He, he, he, he...

So many posts and yet not one person has even seen the point of all this...control.

The AIM chat room is perfect, better than great even...well except for the fact that those who run the .org don't have any control over it. ^_^

Did anyone else notice how AD was ranting on about rules this and rules that in nearly every post they've made so far in this thread?

Just to warn you AD, you should be more careful about excercising power, or you'll split this entire community in half so quick it'll make your head spin...although I believe a couple others already did warn you of that in the 'Goodbye Phade' thread.

Now that Phade isn't here anymore, well, ALL those people who replied in that thread...do you really expect any of them to hold any loyalty to you of all people? *shrugs*

As a suggestion, you might wanna think more about improving your image in this community before you start deciding to go around making sweeping changes. Or don't. Your choice entirely. `, )

Well that is the point of IRC over AIM. Why should there be an official chat room over AIM where the administrators of animemusicvideos.org don't have any control? If people just want to talk about stuff randomly, then they should create their own chat room free from the rules and regulations of this site. Since the goal is to have a legitimate chat room to go along with the site, then the spirit of the rules of animemusicvideos.org has to be transferred to any official chat room. IRC has the features and functionality to allow the administrators to do this, whereas AIM doesn't.

If you don't like this aspect of control, no one's making you use IRC, you're perfecttally free to use the AIM chat room, or whatever other chat rooms that you can find with much more freedom.

Why does there need to be any control? Unless you lack the cognitive capacity to think for yourself and you need someone to think for you, the type of control you're refering to isn't necesary at all. Here on the boards it's a little different in that there are structured categories, so there needs to be some control as far as organization, not to mention the sheer volume plays an important part. The chat room never really has THAT many people in it.

I'm a little confused, what "rules" specifically are you refering to that translate over into the chat room? Further, and you may not realize this, but currently the AIM chat room is acting as a sort of release environment for this community. Anyone who has taken a few courses in psychology can tell you that bottling up your emotions is a REALLY bad thing. By trying to cut off the old AIM chat room, the only current way of venting your emotions is being cut off (since if you started ripping on someone you'd probably get banned). This in turn is going to wind up creating a rather vast amount of emotional pressure in this community which will eventually cause it to explode. Again though, I'm saying all this as just a personal courtesy, I for one can't say as I would be too broken up (pardon the pun) if this community would do the same.
If you don't like this aspect of control, no one's making you use IRC, you're perfecttally free to use the AIM chat room, or whatever other chat rooms that you can find with much more freedom.
Thank you for supporting my point. ^_^

Now then, how many people do you figure don't like that all encompasing level of control? And yes, you're right, they will leave. It's not so much their leaving though so much as what they'll do AFTER they leave which will kick some people in the ass. Again though, I'm partially for the fragmentation of this community, so I maybe I should stop giving you pointers. BTW, just so you're aware, I've done some rather extensive studies and experiments regarding the nature of online communities, so I have quite a bit of experience regarding this subject.

The number of users in the IRC chat room is about twice of what it used to be in the AIM chat room. I don't know about you but I'd consider it a rather sucessful move on behalf of the administration.

Slippery slope fallacy. How do you figure the increase isn't due to the news of the new chat channel (fueled mostly by this particular thread)? Seems you're implying that once the "newness" factor wears off the level of traffic will stay consistent...a pretty big assumption on your part, at least in my experience.

A much more likely scenario is that as soon as this thread starts to die off, so will the IRC chat room.

These aren't just people entering, staying half an hour to see what things are like and then leaving. These people are staying in the chat for hours at a time. If it sucked they would have left already.
