I guess I should say something since that's my video you're mentioning.

To be honest, I wasn't at all surprised "Glory of Love" had such a "low" (not really all that low) star average at one point. It's a Romantic music video with music from the 80's. I imagine the audience who enjoys such things is fairly limited and thus I wasn't at all surprised.

It did go up after the VCA's, so I guess that says something about publicity and whatnot, but you gotta take into account more things than just your personal tastes when looking at reviews and stars. In fact, one of my favorite videos of all time has a star average of 3.9 or something. In turn, I try my darndest to try and get people to watch it. It's all I can do I guess...

In any case, I appreciate the positive comment (indirectly ;)) and like Ian said perhaps it's something they can add as a lower priority. I'm interested to see the results, but am firmly against modifying the existing list. I like it and it agrees with a lot of my own mental lists ;). (not to say my mental lists are right or anything )

This page would have a lower op restriction (3 instead of 8 or whatever it is).

That's a possiblity.

Of course, it is more coding.... which is the hardest thing on the site to do and takes the longest, so it can't be high priority. There are broken things that need fixing first.
why not see if any of the programmers in the programming form are willing work on it.

I took more time to think about this, and I am still talking to people that are in web design classes.

The idea of the two month thing is a good idea.
Keep the old 10% list. (maybe)

-Have a list of 5 amv's in each genre. AMV should have 5 ops (not sure of ops)

-Each AMV is given 1 week to be displayed as a top AMV (2 weeks at the most) Doing this as a 1 week stay is better because it will keep the page at high usage and it would be worth all the coding because its being used.

-The catogories should be grouped, for example, romance and drama or comedy and fun.

-This new TOP AMV page could be something that works with the Video of the Week.

-Instead of it having its own page it could be on the Members Main Menu page.

Really this is a site suggestion that is worth putting into action. For me; when I want to see a good amv I go to the stars list but it may not have the type of amv or even the anime that I want to see placed in a reasonable place. (page)

One other good idea, is to look into some sports top 10 setups or a music (video) countdown 10 list.
Phade kinda gave me an idea for this (inderectly), in his journal he left a link to some web site and if anyone watches these videos this is what we SHOULD NOT BECOME as a family. I call you family because thats he way I feel about everyone who joins, they become apart of my (this) family.
Looking into some professional resources is not a bad idea, its what you make of it.

other ex. MTV.com has a small space on there web site that has, I belive uhh, 5 new videos that have released then beside it they have 5 top videos of the month or week. Basically its organized that when anyone goes there they can see whats hot. (whats hot whats not (a list that could work))

If this page is truly being considered then this forum should be left open until a final determination.
Making anime music videos is what I do.
Its not my job, its something I like to do.

In my other forum at the end I said a What's Hot, What's Not list. This is a better idea I think. People that have a bad AMV need help and we don't really help them.

Mostly all of the good amv's get ops but those that are not so good, some need help or a extra push. This could be a place for them to have their work shown off to those who want to help them get better.

I personally would like to see lots of good amv's from a large group of people then to see a large amount of amv's from a few people or even one person.

(What needs to be placed in all of this is that only one amv per. person should be chosen to be on the new list. If they have another new good amv that qualifies to be on the list then those who click on the link for the one on the already they can click on the user name to check what else is new or good from that person.) THis is exactly what I had in mind, this would work nicely. And yea its not something that needs to be rushed, just something I think would benefit the newcomers more in getting more exposure, and give the rest of us another avenue of discovering new hidden talent. The 2 months thing seems acceptable. I would even offer to help code it, ( I do know some php) but alas my job is just too much for me right now.

Dwchang: I was just using yours as an example to illustrate the star vs review scale to say stars don't always work for showcasing new peoples work, and you brought out another good point, in that peoples taste is another facter in the stars. Wich is not as high of a case in the reviews. Another reason a system like this would work.

I do agree on leaving the old one as is, it is great and has alot of the best AMVs I've seen on it. I don't think I've downloaded one I didn't think deserved to be there. But the first poster does have a valid point in that it doesn't update often. (by this I mean rarely does a new video show up on the list) THis new idea would have a list that DOES update often. At least theoretically. But, in order for it to do its job, it would have to filter out the older videos like Euphoria, that would still stay at the top if it didn't. after the 2 month cycle, it removes those vids from the list completely.

Sorry if I am sounding demanding, I notice I might apear that way in my first post, it was 5 AM when I wrote that ;p I realize you guys do this in your spare time with no profits to you, and commend you on your excellent contributions to the site thusfar.

Well we do have the new video on the bloclk section on the members page. I suppose expanding this list to show maybe 5 of the newest vids instead of just 1 would handle your suggestion. the only problem with this idea, is that so many new vids are released daily on the org, no one vid will stay in the spotlight for very long.

Well don't worry, I wasn't chastising you or anything. I actually appreciate the positive comment. I was just commenting as the creator and how I wasn't at all surprised the video doesn't appeal to some people. In essence, I'm not angry (the creator) so no one else should be ;).

Yup, I like the new list and agree with about 90% of it. I've actually started downloading videos again *gasp*.

As for a new list, I can see the points of it, but I believe myself (and others) were just arguing against changing the current list. If it's something like ADDING a list, that's fine by me. I like finding good videos ;).
