i use something flashy happening within the footage. like some kinda explostion or somethen

Burst of static/noise. Or pixelation.

You could "bounce" the video itself (motion setting), but that might look tacky depending on the footage.

At one point or another I have used everything I mentioned except lightning and backing up footage half a second so I know that it all works. However I generally didn't do them alone, sometimes you gotta combine several of these together.

A word of caution, I did all this in one video. While I like that video for technical reasons it did come across as too synthetic and lacking a soul or meaning. So keep in mind that going overboard on this type of stuff can kill the video.

I can relate. I came up with this one technique that I was going to use in my Kiddy Grade AMV, but it just didn't mesh well, like it was too perfect, or like you said, synthetic.
