Pledges page appearing

Oh and arigatomyna... don't be snappy, it's just a piece of site code that checks to see if you donated this year. It's not like some big condemnation.

I'll ask phade what his intentions for this were and we'll reassess the situation.

I'm sorry! ^_^;; I didn't mean to be snappy, I'm just wishing I'd said something back when I first noticed this. I went and told my friends they could make a one-time donation if they wanted the 'freebies' you get as a donator. Then I found out that it was only good for a year and felt like I'd lied to them (which I had, but I didn't know it at the time). So I'm really wanting some of the descriptions changed a little, that's all.

One thing I did think of was this one:

Levels are awarded based on the amount of donations received.

Adding a "per year" or "on a yearly basis" to the end of that would tell people that it is in fact counted by year.

It's just a matter of rewording things a little differently. If I sound snappy, it's just that I'm griping at myself for keeping quiet - I thought it was some 'common knowledge' that I just hadn't realized, and I hate being the dumb one who can't read between the lines. ^_^;

What might happen is that people how get up to a certain (as yet undecided) level will get a permanent status.

Then that will keep some of the original idea but not penalise big donators.

If that happens the description of the levels will be made clearer.

Holy crap! I was getting the new donation page thing too, and I didn't say anything because I thought it was just a small bug... Didn't want to bother AD(although I really should've).

Yarg. As long as the priveleges(like 1 second wait to download and the list of new local videos updated) doesn't go away, I guess I'm fine since I don't display my donation status anyway...

But no one has answered that question... About the priveledges, I mean. Only the levels.

And yes, rewording would be good.

Also, now that Phade's gone, do we send the donations somewhere else? Or still to him and he just tells other people to update status?

Wasn't sure...

You can still send the cash to phade, it's his bank account.

As for the technicalities of all this everyone will just have to wait I'm afraid.

At this point, wouldn't it be better to just not donate at all? I mean, looking at te fine print of things... If I were poor, I'd be like "Well a 10 second thing and a pledge window appearing is better than a randomly declining donation title and/or priveledges!"

Just a thought...

Not donating at all would be much quicker, yes...

as there'd be no videos to download.

But it's more than those two things. You get the extra 'new vids on the block,' and the highlighted 'downloaded' videos on the star scale, and the search by stars/ops option in the super search. I like the little freebies, though I do take them for granted. Besides which, I like the little title. It might not be much, but it does show that you did something, gave *something* back to the site. I may have donated to get instant upload priviledges on the carrot, but I did the second time because I wanted to see my 'title' go up. I thought if I kept adding in lump sums when I had the money, it would be another 'stat' to keep my eye on. My biggest disappointment with the donation process is that getting a year behind on pledges voids any hope I had of moving up my status. If I had just waited more than two months to make that second pledge, I could have kept it there and let it rise with the next donation.

The way it's set up isn't bad, persay, it just needs to be clearly stated so no one gets the wrong idea. I don't think anyone would mind sending in smaller donations spread out over time instead of lumps now and then. They just need to be told that quarterly donations are 'safer' than one-time ones are for long-term members who like being donators. I don't mind waiting a while for that to get lined out on the description pages - I was already holding off donations anyway, till everyone settles in their new responsibilities.

Do you mean that if no one donated the donut would collapse eventually, or that non-donators will eventually not be allowed to download local videos period? o.o

Ari - I know it's more than two things, but the ten second thing and th epledge page thing are the two main ones, for me. Everything else is just Icing on the cake.

... o.o I didn't know we could search for star score! Damn, I wish I'd known that... Would've made things a lot easier! >>
