Post by Lone Wolf » Thu Jun 03, 2004 12:38 pm

What is the difference between these two? My dad wants to burn a DVD for himself...that's why.

You can't play DVD-Ram in a standalone DVD player, i think that's the most important difference.

Also the number of DVD burners that can handle burning to DVD-RAM formated discs are dwindling.

Two differences:
1) DVD-RAM is re-recordable. DVD-R is not.
2) Most home DVD players can deal with DVD-R. Most home players can not deal with DVD-RAM. There are exceptions for both these statements.

the cool thing about RAM disks is that you can effectively use them as a hard disk (as in, cut/copy/paest stuff to them, install programs and anything els) which is prety cool.

just wondering but, around how much do dvd-RAM disks cost ? and are thier going to be (is it possible?) dvd9 RAM disks ?

DVD-RAM is crazy, you can read and write to it simultaniously. o_O It's also HIGHLY incompatable with... Pretty much everything else that uses DVD. XD Most DVD players, most DVD-Roms, and DVD burners can't read DVD-RAM disks, just about only DVD-RAM drives can read the disks.

They're gread for personal video recorders and what not, but they arn't all that universial. The drives are also expensive as hell.

This one costs no more - maybe less - than other writers that don't have DVD-RAM capability: http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_getp ... =GSA-4082B
