Instrumental...

Post by krzT » Wed Jun 02, 2004 8:41 pm

I've noticed the growing popularity in instrumental AMVs...
So a question comes up,
Which AMV(s) set to instrumental [nonvocal] songs are your favorite, and why?
:)

Well, looks like the secret Instrumental Project strategy is working

Well, there's really a lot of interesting stuff, but I'll just throw out a couple of really good ones out there...

Fluxmeister: Souls of Rage and Sorrow. - One of the first instrumental videos I saw, and I must admit, still a very good one.

AbsoluteDestiny: Storytelling. - A classic. Simple but effective editing combined with a refreshing approach and obscure source.

Downwithpants: Tomoe in the Moonlight - I really like this one. Very neatly edited and nicely structured.

Kwasek: hmm - I always found this one neat/weird. Just because of how it works out the way it does...

***

now, just watch for the project to come out - there's already some really good ones coming up from there. Myself, I've been watching Pen-Pen's new Memories video and Rose4emily's FLCL (13'37") video, and I think the former has a lot of potential to do really well with audiences, while the latter is shaping up as something pretty original. But I think all of the project entries are pretty spiffy now...
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

I really should watch the completed entries, because I'm mad curious.

Burntoast's Our Home.

It's pretty short, simplistic, and right to the point (of course She and Her Cat is only 5 min. long  ).

Oh yeah, don't you DARE forget to include Fluxy's Endure. Amazing dramatic video using an anime series which is somewhat underrated.

MaboroshiStudio's Far And Away is definitely my favorite instrumental AMV. There's something about it that just captured me from the moment it started. I didn't even notice until the video was over that it was over seven minutes long. The editing is especially great from something that was made back in 2000 (if you look at the url, it's AMV #87 on the org :P ).

I also like Fluxmeister's Souls of Rage and Sorrow. :P

But yeah, instrumental AMV's are definitely the way to go.

They're just a whole different class of difficult to edit to. No lyrics, no lip-sync, it's a lot more difficult.

Personally, I feel that instrumental songs are easier to edit to because I'm not restrained by lyrics. Of all the projects that I've started/completed/worked on/abandoned, about half use intrumental music. And the non-instrumental ones tend to be abandoned sooner. :P

LOL krzt, I didn't realize it was you who started the thread until like two minutes ago. Why don't you get an avatar already?!
