Hoshi No Koe...Good or Bad?

Post by someperson » Fri May 28, 2004 2:26 pm

Hoshi No Koe (a.ka. Voices of a Distant Star)
I've been wondering about this anime for quite some time. The story line seems good...But I've heard the dubs are crap (a review on animenewsnetwork.com gave the dubs a D )http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/reviews ... php?id=501

There's also the fact that the anime is only 25 minutes long. I'm not sure what kind of a story can be established in that short amount of time (but then again, it was pulled off in Animatrix, each story about ten minutes or so).

Not sure about the dub quality (I've only seen it subtitled), but overall I'd say Hoshi No Koe was fairly good. They did develop the story well, but it wasn't anything really compelling. Also, I personally didn't care for the ending, since it seemed anticlimactic. I really feel that this title is overrated, but it's still a good value for the money, and a decent way to spend half an hour.

The DVD ADV released was, in my opinion, a double-edge sword. First off, the original script was practically scrapped for the dubbed version so it's mearly an "adapted" version (that's Steven Foster to you :? ). The dub version was actually decent, but there was some misinterpretations of the main characters. The subs, however; took up WAY too much space. At the climax, the subs took up HALF the screen so they practically ruined it.

But Hoshi no Koe is definetely a well-crafted story given the fact the whole thing was created by one man. I highly recommend it.

I downloaded that AMV a while ago, but I haven't been able to see it yet due to an uptight adiminstrator at school and some assholes who think it' fun to mess with the networking at school (a long story that I have no desire to continue, since it would result in me ranting and raving and leaving you thoroughly confused).
