How is Vegas? I'm using the dumbed-down version, Screenblast Movie Studio 3.0, and it's nice, but limited.
To paraphrase one Mr. Cool James, please refrain from referring to it as a revival, I've been lurking for ages.

i have vegas 5 and i must say it's a pretty good program. i didn't like vegas when it first came out, but it's very much like premiere and you can pretty much load in multiple vid formats and res sizes without a hitch or glitch. their aren't tons of auxilary files to take up space (which is essential with avid, studio 7) and render time isn't too bad at all. and because it used to be a sonic foundry product, you can go between acid and sound forge seamlessly to edit audio (for those who want to go the extra mile and make movies). so if you know those programs you won't have very much trouble with fguring out track lay outs, options, shortcuts.

i prefer to use it now because it's very efficient money wise, space wise and it's definitely giving the other pro apps a run for their money.

yeah im using vegas4 and its bloody greate. cetianly whips premiers ugly grey ass (god i havent said something like that in ages, it feels greate :P ) . i wana upgrade to vegas5, but that probaly woent happen for a few months (well ive got till the end of october, after that im no longer a student, which means i; have to then pay the full price). any was, as nova said (kinda), all of sony/sonic foundaries multimedia programs use the same basic gui and share alot of functionality. so its very easy to go from one program to another (note that vegas is not just a high end vid editor, but also a mid [and posibly high] level sound editor, as most of the new features and improvements in vegas5 are for audio)
