new and full of ideas :D

Post by lysergic » Fri May 28, 2004 8:52 am

hi guys,

first of anime ROCKS, i've gone back to my roots where i used to hire as many anime dvds as possible and try and watch them all in one night. I've also been drawing manga and find it soooo rewarding, lots of progress in really short time, but when my friend showed me an amv called bleed the sky i was completely blown away!

so i got all the programs, my friend lent me plenty of good dvds

okay so i;ve got a few problems/questions

1. i am runing out of space: i followed the guides and my hdd is almost gone, 2 gigs left, i even sacrificed my favourite video game counter-stike which i truly regret, is there any way to achive high quality without so much space taken up

2. When i try to put effects in premire they just dissappear as soon as a press play or do u guys do all the effects in after effects? i don't even know how to fade them in and out.

3. How many dvds do u guys work with? my first amv which went for 25's was ghost in the shell, but my latest one i want at least 3 dvd's on the same amv? is this crazy or do all people do it?

4. Does every1 think there amv's are fantastic. genius, magic or is it just me.

thats it people, i want to fisnish my latest one asap as i could be the next big thing :P

Not really, no. The way I prefer is to edit directly with the VOBs via AVISynth scripts, so that I only need to keep the VOBs on my hard drive and don't need to make any big ol' high-quality AVI files.

If you're using Premiere 6 or lower, the effects won't show up until you render/preview the selection you want. Adjust the Work Area Bar until it covers the part you want, and hit Enter.

You can also scrub through while holding down the Alt key to see what your effects look like without having to preview.

Most I've ever worked with is 9: the NGE TV series (that's 8) and Death and Rebirth. One of the projects I've got planned for the future requires quite a few different series (that I don't have), though.

Personally, I would not make a statement like that unless I had a lot of people backing me up on it. And as far as I know, I don't. (yet.)

when you say your editing the vobs, u mean straight of the dvd? if so thats screwed for me casue most of my dvds are lent to me and i have to give them back =/

No, they meant the vobs ripped to your hard drive. It's impossible to edit off of a DVD because DVD-ROMs lack fast enough seek times to allow you to edit in realtime.

Yeah, the DVD2AVI project files are no more than <s>indexes</s> indices for the VOBs. So if you delete the VOBs, the D2Vs will come up empty.

No no, I mean I'm ripping the VOBs to my hard drive and using AVISynth to edit with them, like you're doing. The VOBs are big, yes, but they're not as big as HuffYUV AVIs, which is why I say that this method of editing probably is the least demanding on one's hard drive.

First off, kudos for reading the guides and being an all around good newbie.

As for space, check out the "bait and switch method" as it will allow you to deleate the VOB's as long as you can get them back later. I edit with a 20 gig HDD and my first project used 4 DVDs (this is without taking clips, I had the entire series as source footage.)

4. It depends, some people think they are the hottest thing since AB track editing, others think that thier videos are unworthy to see the light of day. I've found it usually has nothing to do with actuall skill either way so it doesn't really matter.

Good luck on your first video!
