If I listened to Christian music, would I be listening to bands like Obituary and Deicide?
No.
Christian music ain't my thing, but if it's heavy and fast, I'll give it a listen.

Re: Christian Music
Well, you might like Current 93. Hardly Christian, but they are intelligent.Qyot27 wrote: The few bands that I have found perform what I view as very underrepresented genres in Christian music. Industrial/Electronic rock and Goth rock. As yet, I haven't found any Christian Goth rock bands (Goth in it's true sonic form, that is, not Evanescence-type stuff; although I do listen to Evanescence). Since Christian music as a whole isn't supposed to be that depressing, I mostly listen to normal old Goth rock and Industrial, which is full of ambiguous religious symbolism, and doesn't necessarily stand behind a particular religion, since it's mostly introspective and open to your own interpretation, and can still be inspiring to listen to as a Christian.
And yes, most of it's over my admittedly atheist head. Need to actually read the bible one of these days.
Also, the old-school Italian band Kirlian Camera. I haven't heard much of their stuff, but if you can track down Eclipse, it's well worth it.

I also believe in miracles. As for where I am "from," that's a subjective questions. I'm a military brat, born in Nebraska, USA. I'm currently living my days in North Carolina, USA.TobinHood wrote:I believe in miracles...

I'm not offended by your personal preferance. It's your choice of what you like. I like honesty, thoughOtohiko wrote:Actually, not to be a snob/troll - but that is the reason I went to the record store and fileshares and found some music that was far more profane and full of innuendos than radio would allow, which I now love dearly (ex. Frank Zappa). Strange how different people respond to the same stimulus differently, that's all.
I'm sorry if it seemed as if I was; I was simply pointing out some of the romance roots of our language... Bah, I need to get out more...As for Christian fans - well - there are at least a few here, hopefully they'll show up soon enough. There's a couple of Christian Metal listeners around here I've heard from, at least.
And let's not start another fight over religious ideologies, etc., over here. This is a music forum, remember.
Myself, I've heard quite a bit of good Christian music, mainly through my dad who worked as a musician at a church (and even attended seminary and was ordained as a pastor, which is almost bizzare given his sharp disillusion with all organized, traditional religion lately), and brought in a few things from here and there. For the most part, my impression of good Christian music (though I've heard some that is really bland) is decent, predictable, but often emotional softer (or at least positive) songs.
For the most part, I find it to be a good music of comfort. Which, of course, is almost entirely lost on me since what I'm presently looking for in music is a lot of pointed sticks and sudden jolts of energy, stuff that throws your mind in disarray and then makes you put it back together piece by piece.
But I can surely see how and why a Christian-oriented person sick of mainstream radio would turn to this as a natural choice.

1. I have heard Christian rock bands before through friends, just can't remember enough to talk about them ^^;;
2. At the risk of affront...was Endymion taken? /as a Moonius Fangurlius Edymion is bugging me...but just asking through curiousity (!)
3. I think your banner's nifty. Where'd you get the sprites from? (Though it would be cool if it was bigger, but alas the rules.
Anyways, welcome and such ^_^
2) I didn't check for Edymion v. Endymion, but the reasoning is the spelling in the mangas I have and to make a distinction between Chiba Mamoru and the Greek King who feel in love with Luna, goddess of the moon.
3) I don't rightly remember where I got the sprite... If this sight allowed attachments, I'd PM it to you.
Thanks ^_^ FYI: Sailor Moon introduced me to anime ten years ago (when I was 11), and the manga is still my favorite. I've fallen out of sorts with the anime finding that even the original company "broke" the storyline and DiC and Cloverway...I'd rather not mention them. The SNES video game was great, though
I already like youazulmagia wrote:Ah, no, you have it confused with agnosticism. "a-gnostos" "no-knowledge". "a-theist" = "a-theos" = "no-god'. Just like an aleprechaunist is someone who professes no belief in leprechauns...
"No-belief" would be "apisticism" if there was such a word in the English language.
I'd have to agree, but there are quite a few good Conteporary ones, as well. Chrismtas Shoes, in my humble opinion, is one of the greats of this decade. Carman is just the first solo artist I could think of. His contemporary, rap, and Latin-influenced songs have impressed me. Interestingly enough, I had a concept (never even went to the next step of planning) of using his "Satan, Bite the Dust" to make a Vash dedicated vid. Why? Knives ^_^Rorschach wrote:I've heard a few good CCM pieces, but a lot of the contemporary stuff seems like pale imitations of secular songs. We're too nice to the singers, you ask me: after the performance, everyone lies and says how wonderful it all was, even if it's a lot of pale piety with no substance. I've heard some Carmen; not really my idea of stellar stuff. Newsboys and Jars of Clay are more my style, even if they are rather "artsy" and abstract with some of their lyrics.
Pacifism is the antithesis to humanity and, therefore, ChristianityIronically, the very solution to CCM's problems might be to put more sex and violence into the songs. If you look back over the Scriptures carefully, they're neither pacifist nor Victorian in their treatment of these subjects, though they do advocate that sex and violence be applied only for some very specific purposes (i.e. marriage and justice). Then too, they don't cringe from showing humanity's depravity, though their descriptions of some of it are tastefully compact and understated. Christian songs should be the same way: not devoid of sex and violence, but full of the right kind of sex and violence... or warnings (by humor, stern condemnations, or both) against other kinds.
Yes. Yes it isQyot27 wrote:I think the choice isn't so much a bad one, it's just that when you bring religious music into the foray, there's going to be some off-topic religious conversation and debate almost always tied into it...at least, while you're bringing the subject up on a general forum. But that's off-topic as well...*smacks self in forehead* doh!
You do have an interesting choice, but I'd say it's far from wrong. I've never really gotten into the whole "goth" idea, but it's not impossible to mix a gothic medium to a Christian one. Though...I'm not to sure how. I'm sure you do.*raises hand* Right here. I gotta say I don't quite listen to as much as some of my other friends, due to the fact that my general outlook on life (the Gothic Christian outlook) isn't exactly something that is catered to in Christian music all that much (although my outlook in no way contradicts my faith).
The few bands that I have found perform what I view as very underrepresented genres in Christian music. Industrial/Electronic rock and Goth rock. But I listen to a few other bands. Newsboys, Skillet, MxPx, Circle of Dust, Klank, Celldweller, Mortal, dc Talk, The Echoing Green, and Amy Grant to name some of them (yeah, that list probably makes me sound like a schizo, but hey, why not?)
I don't know what you mean by "heavy and fast," but Christian is a "multi-genre" because it also has rap, pop, metal, rock, et cetera.BrsrkEva wrote:If I listened to Christian music, would I be listening to bands like Obituary and Deicide?

Nope
You know there is plenty of other music that doesn't use sex or cursing as gimmicks.
Though I think most popular music left behind inuendo years ago.
Takes all the fun out of it if you just out right say things.

Hmmm....were you reading scans or something? (Though I guess if you were looking at the mythological reference there could be differences between the Endymion/Selene story. Oh well.
Too bad about the sprites![]()
