Sure they would, because the bootlegs are a lot cheaper (esp. if the R1 release was done by Pioneer/Geneon...).El Diablo Rojo wrote:I don't really think they're bootlegs. I suppose its possible, but it just doesn't seem like they are. They sell the same stuff you find on many websites and in many stores, and appear to be a fairly successful business. If they sold bootlegs, I doubt they would have very many people buying from them. Its just not logical.
What's your point? Bootlegs generally do have the same content, video-wise, as the R1s.El Diablo Rojo wrote:It even matches the stuff on TV. I'll give you an example. I bought a Rurouni Kenshin DVD set there. Its the last half of of the show, which consists of the end of the second season, and all of the third season. Now, on TV, the show went through the end of the second season, and end of that season provided on the DVD set and the end of it on TV were identical (except for the stuff they edit out of TV).
... Oh.El Diablo Rojo wrote:Now that covers a bootleg as meaning something that is not the actual movie or show or whatever.
I was not aware that the term "bootleg" was ever used to mean that.
I'd say the Chinese subtitles are a pretty sure sign.El Diablo Rojo wrote:As far as I'm concerned, its good enough for me. If I knew for certain that they were selling bootlegs, I wouldn't support them. But there really any way of knowing that.
Because they've got all the markings of the official R1 licensors, are R1 only, and don't have Chinese on them.El Diablo Rojo wrote:mean, how do you know the stuff in your local store isn't a bootleg.
Not on this site you won't, or you'll find yourself looking down the wrong end of a smackdown from the admins/mods.El Diablo Rojo wrote:So for now, I will buy Anime there and I reccomend it to anyone else.

Well...I guess I'm just stupid. Ignorance is bliss.
Well that doesn't make any sense. Wouldn't that be illegal? Wouldn't they get in trouble for doing something illegal? And, if there not getting in trouble, Wouldn't that mean that either what they're doing is completely legit, or that its not wrong to to sell what they sell? Plus, Wouldn't they get sued by someone?Scintilla wrote:Sure they would, because the bootlegs are a lot cheaper (esp. if the R1 release was done by Pioneer/Geneon...).El Diablo Rojo wrote:I don't really think they're bootlegs. I might have been mistaken. I thought I had seen it used that way before, but I probably was wrong or just read something incorrectly. I'm probably just stupid. Sorry about that. If I was wrong, then please disregard that first part of my post.Scintilla wrote:... There are no Chinese subtitles, at least not on the Kenshin DVD I got. (which happens to be a widespread set, which means that if it is a bootleg, than its a very popular one. makes you wonder why it has not been stopped yet...) I know it says Chinese subtitles on the site, but there aren't any. I'm guessing its a mistake.Scintilla wrote:I'd say the Chinese subtitles are a pretty sure sign.El Diablo Rojo wrote:As far as I'm concerned, its good enough for me. Allow me to clarify. I do reccomend it to anyone, if, and only if, they do not sell bootlegs, which I have not been convinced of yet. If it turns out they do, I would hope people would have enough good sense to not support them. If it does turn out they sell bootlegs, I would hope that this thread would be deleted imediately or at least the parts with the website in them. I'm sorry for any inconvenience I may have caused.Scintilla wrote:Not on this site you won't, or you'll find yourself looking down the wrong end of a smackdown from the admins/mods.El Diablo Rojo wrote:So for now, I will buy Anime there and I reccomend it to anyone else.

Hell, you can easily tell they're bootlegs at a glance by the insanely low prices (Trigun perfect set $120 cheaper than everywhere else oh my!) and the different cover art.

dude, they are totally bootleg...
Dragonball Z is not titled by "parts"(this is not a horror movie, although some find dbz to be
)
Trigun is 8 discs, not 3
The Bebop box sets arent being made anymore
Fooly Cooly is not on 1 dvd(they had to be cheap and put it on 3 dvd's to soak my money up
)
Hellsing is not 2 discs...
I can go on and on. The stuff is bootleg, and its bad to buy bootlegs cause the people who worked extremely hard drawing up the series you truely enjoy are not making the money they truely deserve. I used to download anime and such, but to "atone" for download, i bought everything i downloaded on dvd.
Just my 2 cents

Oh come on, if you can't tell there bootlegs there's something wrong with you
Another tip that usually helps when checking for bootleggedness, if youc an get 9-10eps on one dvd at an insanely low price It's most definately a bootleg.
Also you can go to a place where you know only legitamite dvds are sold (like places mentioned above your post) and compare their products being carried to the products being carried by the site with the bootlegs. I don't care who you are, unless you get really lucky on ebay you're not getting a boxed set for 10 bucks.

I'm not sure about this, but I think such operations are legal in certain Southeast Asian countries, so if that's where they're based, they don't get shut down. It's just not legal to bring the bootlegged merchandise into the USA (or most other countries). Or something like that. Someone correct me if I'm wrong?El Diablo Rojo wrote:Well that doesn't make any sense. Wouldn't that be illegal? Wouldn't they get in trouble for doing something illegal? All Right. This is the proof I needed, or at least close enough to proof for me. I'm sorry for being so incredibly stupid. I happen to not know much about anything, or so it would seem. I can't tell the difference of the bootlegs from the original, or at least not yet. Once again, I'm sorry for my stupidity, and please forget anything I've said.
