Screen resolution problem

I've been trying to resize my screen back to where it was before I had to reformat the computer and reinstall everything, but it won't go higher than 1024x768, which is blurred and not very nice. I want it the next step up, but that option is no longer there for some reason. I've tried updating (and reinstalling) drivers, to no avail. I'm working in XP. Anyone have any idea how I can fix this? Thanks

Did you upgrade the proper video card driver?
