It's weird. You ask anyone who has ever met me and they'll say I'm probably one of the most non-serious, happy fun time people they know. I never take anything seriously at all, yet only one of my released videos is not dramatic in some sense, and I only recently made it. Strange. I guess I just think if my style of humor was applied to amvs it'd fail miserably. I've never tried to storyboard jokes, I basically just go with the flow of the moment when making people laugh (or play off their words).

Most jokes just.... Happen. I find tha a lot of the best jokes are difficult to impossible to storyboard.

Comedies aren't hard! Look, a simple formula:

Dragonball/Z/GT + exploitation of homoerotic themes = COMEDY GOLD.

YOU CANNOT GO WRONG.
Don't you hate it when people describe something as "cute" when they really mean "God, I want to fuck that"?

I notice alot of the videos I find funny seem to be made as a 'what the hell, I got a few free days' type of thing. There are only a small handful of people who make comedies that I like AND spend the time to do decent editing on it. So go ahead and make that comedy you can't storyboard, it'll probably be better than any comedy you could storyboard.

I didn't say I was trying, I was basically just saying what you were. That very few editors actually storyboard their comedy videos and I wouldn't want to try it because I also prefer spur of the moment jokes. Nothing beats catching someone off guard and making them laugh.

On a side note I'd like to say comedy videos are not hard to pull off, but actual somewhat intelligent humour is, IMO. Anyone can make a fart joke (and yes I will laugh at it).

Same here. Personality does not reflect editing style/preference. ;p

Comedy is hard without the right idea and execution. Sometimes you have an idea that you can't do b/c it involves something you are bad at. What do you do then? Learn how to do it better. I was bad at lipsyncing so I did it for a video or two and got much better at it. I wanted to learn how to do masking. So I did a video that needed lots of masking in order to work well.

I have made a few comedy videos recently, but before then I had done more serious videos and have also tried a dancish video and an action video. It just happens that I had some solid ideas. Some are simpler like "Rock Lee: Mentos spokesperson" and others were much more involved like my Otakon entry which required all sorts of masking and frame by frame editing and rotoscoping. Some ideas just hit you. I agree with AD in theory, but in practice it is tough.

Some of the sentiments in this thread are valid. Some people just can't make good comedy videos. Its a shame cause many of the videos are very simple to create editing wise and don't require a whole lot of skill. Sometimes just the juxtaposition is enough. I think people like to make flashy effect based videos now a days as they seem to get more exposure. But who knows.

I hear your call AD!!!! I still have one comedy video in the pipeline which should be ready for AWA.

Anything can go in comedy. O.o I might as well make 3D animation caricature of myself in which I'd wander the streets of anime meeting all my favourite characters  . Just imagine...me and Onizuka in a bike race or me and Gatz in a sword fight. I'd entitle it "Bote in Animeland" :P . When I acquire enough animation skills this is what I'm gonna dew  .
