You really didn't have to apologize my anime brother-in-arms. You just have strong feelings about your music. That's all.

the funny part is: you dont know how badly you'd be laughed at if you went and said that anywere else thats not just rockers. how the fuck are you gonna dance to as i lay dying, or ramstein? what i think you mean is cinimatic, wich i might agree with you. even in the most hardcore gangster rap songs, the tension of the song tends to stay at the same level. what can i say. ur suposed to dance to it.

Did I say dancing?

I don't mean "motion" music as in "shake that ass girl, lemme see ya work it".

No I mean motion music, as in you can imagine something moving, like a vehicle for example when you close your eyes or think about it, just like you could imagine a bumble bee buzzing around when you hear "Flight of the Bumblebee".
I'm sure Oto knew what I was talking about.

A good song that I see motion in is "Fiend" by Orgy or "Supernova Goes Pop" by Powerman 5000.

There is a handful of some rap I do like, though it is very limited.
I listen to a lot of different things, and from all the stuff I've heard rap just doesn't do it for me like rock, dance, techno, classical, instrumental, Celtic, etc.
(Just a question: who here actually listens to Soundtracks? As in the instrumental music backing up a movie, show, game or other media? Personally, the Halo OST is a must, also, there is excellent music to be had on the Hellsing OSTs and the Metal Gear Solid OSTs)

Oh, and has anyone here heard of the Blue Man Group?
Some of the most original music ever. Especially when you realize what they are using for instruments.
BMG's Audio album on DVDaudio in 5.1 surround is incredible....
If we're talking beats, the Big Drum eats the synthasized beats of other music for lunch.

Mmm... well, I don't want to involve myself in anti- or pro-rap debates here, since I've established that rap CAN be very good music.

But I do see what Vlad is talking about in terms of motion.

My visualized perception of a good sustained guitar line is a sheet of plywood flying through the athmosphere at hypersonic speeds, rotating and thus changing its' friction and tension accordingly.

Sadly, my visualized perception of -generalized- rap is my dumbass neighbor's car standing outside the window making my head hurt with its' damn subwoofer. The only motion it suggests to me is taking a bottle and throwing it at the idiot when he comes to turn it on next time :?

But that goes to show the subjectiveness of these perceptions. I'm sure there's people who see rap as good 'motion music'. But I laugh at them if they consider this perceived motion as license to laugh at others.

Let's not argue over how to describe perceptions of music. It's really something everyone feels differently about.

And oh, I've heard about... two tracks by BMG and I was generally pleased with it. It didn't astound me, but I nodded in approval of the sounds I was hearing. Quality stuff.

Not everyone is a sexually starved fiend.

Our definitions of music types differ apparently.

I would define cinematic music as music written to go with a movie, as in background or soundtrack music to a movie.

Motion music is music I define as instilling the feeling of a moving object, such as a vehicle, or as Oto said, some plywood. When moving persons come to mind, its usually like a fight sequence.

But, once again, people have different ways of thinking.

And I could bring back the whole subject of musical tastes.... (but it might scare someone off, like Set Abominae)

Just because I think they're shit doesn't mean I don't recognise their talent and skill.

do all lyrics have to be meaningful? music is music and it can be fun. it doesn't have to be a singer pouring their heart out.

Nah, I definitely agree with that. And I think Nailz does too, because he listens to all this weird funny shit. I think his main problem is that there isn't much variety in most rap lyrics. I don't listen to rap, so I don't know if he's right or not... but I've got a good feeling that he is. It seems like most of it is pretty typical.
