Recommendations, people bothering me over IM, occasionally Announcements threads, and most of all, looking up songs I like on the Super Search.

I'd say I mostly download videos by looking up songs I like. If someone I like messages and tells me they released a new video I'll go check it out and if they tell me they posted it in vid annoucements I'll go respond and then troll around there for awhile checking out other random vids from other random posts.

Like a lot of people I started off by downloadin loads of the videos of the top 10%. But I looked at it now for a while.

If someone mentions a fairly rare band or artist I like I'll definately download a few of their videos. Or if I like someone's vid, I'll download the vids off their favourites list. Or I'll just download a video if I think it's got a cool concept, or if it's pissed someone off :)

I like to browse by conventions. You can get a lot of golden oldies this way, especially from contests like Otakon and AWA. And this way picks up on all those great videos that don't make it to any ratings lists.

To be honest...

The only time I watch amv's is from people I know or when I give out free op's (or 1:1's).

I usually download videos that sound interesting to me, despite who they're made by. If it's a requested or friend made video, I might watch it before others.

- AMV Announcements, if the announcement sounds good and isn't all hypey.
- Sometimes a song or musical artist I like. Often, what happens is I think "Hey, somebody-who's-not-necessarily-me should make a video of [person-or-band]'s music," and I look them up. Thus my downloaded-AMVs folder tends to get into a strange set of themes.
- Sometimes an anime I like, especially if there aren't many vids to it.

All of the above are negated by illiterate vid descriptions. Puts off a bad impression of your intelligence, thus I have to wonder about your vidding skill. Yes, quite possibly a vid with a description like "yeah lol so umm i made this in 2 hours lol my first vid lol be nice lol sorry about the subtitles lol lol lofuckingl" may be an absolute masterpiece - but the chances are not good.

So. That's how.

I watch a lot of AMVs for having been around for two years, apparently. By this point most people get all "Nothing is good enough for my virgin eyes!", but I have a relatively fast connection and don't mind watching ten seconds of a vid only to delete it.

Same exact thing, but I also browse the New Vids On The Block.
