Manga vs anime - a not so instant poll.

1) I haven't gone to the bookstore in awhile. I also have not yet bought a single manga, although I plan to in the near future. And third, I haven't finished my local library's collection yet, but I'm getting close.

2) Nausicaa was awesome. It's Miyazaki, but in manga form.

3) Nausicaa the manga was far better than the anime. I haven't read any manga that had a series, except for Nausicaa, so I can't really finish the question.

1) I do. ^_^

2) The GTO manga is about the best manga out there right now. I also recommend getting manga in the original japanese if you you can "understand" it - especially Magic Knight Rayearth (the edition of which is gorgeous and has all sorts of "extras". I missed out on buying it when had the opportunity though). Japanese manga paper also smells better than Tokyopop, Viz etc. paper.

3) I liked the Utena anime (only seen the Black Rose arc though) better than the manga. The GTO manga surely kicks more ass than the anime (have not seen the anime). I'm fairly sure Rurouni Kenshin is better as anime than manga even though I haven't seen the anime. It saddens me that the Sakura Diaries manga has not been licensed or even fan scripted, since the art is excellent, especially in volume one. (It also gets a lot more explicit than the anime)

I can't decide if I'd want to read that or not...heh...the anime was...'interesting' to say the least. Kinda soapy.

Well, it does have H-mangaesque whited out private parts (which may explain why it hasn't been licensed, but hey that didn't stop Bondage Fairies), but it's not like that they're going at it all the time....

Naw, I own stuff with the same 'whited out etc' I doubt that's the reason. I don't know, if you ask me, it would either take off or crash and burn. At least it seemed like that sort of series with the anime. I couldn't decide if I liked it or hated it (mostly due to soap opera style)...but I've never checked out the manga to make a worthwhile comparison.

1) i read the first volume of the inuyasha manga, but i had seen those episodes already on as, i jsut wanted to see how the shows compared plus i was with a friend and he took forever so i sat there and read it.

i've read a few manga but not ones where i've seen the shows as well so i have nothingto really go by.

Yeah, I read manga in the store sometimes. You have to know if it's worth the money, right?

As for manga that is far better than the anime, well, Ah! My Goddess is a good example. It's a lot more fun. Especially when Peorth shows up... Hehehehe....

1.) Haven't been to a bookstore in a while, but all times I did go I'd see people reading.

2.) Hmmmmm.....this varies depending on who you are trying to get interested.
But, just like the anime, the Akira manga is so good, no collection should be without it.

3.) Manga better? Akira. The manga is multitudes better. and the Akira movie is pretty damn good to boot, so this should be saying a lot.

Trigun's kinda tough, the show is more polished, both are pretty light hearted at points and dead serious at others, but I suppose the manga wins out due to there being more story.

Hellsing is the same case, except since the latter half of the anime suffers from story problems, the manga wins easily.

Outlaw Star. I don't know if you really can compare the two. The only thing they really have in common is the same basic universe/plot idea and a few characters and that's about it. Outlaw Star is one of those series where the manga and anime are radically different.

Ranma 1/2. Manga wins. The show is good and very entertaining, but the manga wins because, just like Hellsing and Trigun, there's more "meat" to the story.

Ippatsu Kiki Musume. This one is hard to call, both weird situations, but the manga is by far more graphic, almost hentai-ish at some points. Well, more like gross out stuff than hentai.
I'll have to say the anime. Still fun, but not super gross-out like the manga.

1] I've never read manga in a bookstore. I usually download a couple of scans and order online from Amazon or Sasuga if the title intrigues me. Scanslations are nice but manga is a BIG pain to download, so I only download scanslations of unreleased titles.

2] X/1999. If only CLAMP would finish it!!

3] The Full Moon wo Sagashite manga is definitely better than the anime. Mangas I read are generally lesser-known than the animes I watch, so there aren't many comparisons that I can make. I personally liked the Fruits Basket anime better than the manga. And if I were forced to choose between the X/1999 manga and X TV, I'd go for the anime, but only because of things like music and Sorata's voice and an ACTUAL ENDING.

Does anybody know if Viz is ever going to continue releasing the Please Save My Earth manga?
