Select-a-Bish?

I am building an AMV with a 15-20 second portion in which the viewer is supposed to feel like he or she is in a pre-game set-up menu, selecting a character for an adventure. I have eight 'slots' and the 'selector' will start from boy "1" and cycle up the list, pausing a little at "dude 5", going up to mega-dude "8," but deciding "8" is a LITTLE TOO "over the top," pop down
one back to cool-dude "7," select "7" and click through to the next screen to start the game.

So I need eight anime GUYS, ordered from young & wimpy, through older, more competent, cooler (kakou-ii!) up through VERY COOL, (#7,) plus one cool-but-overdone kind of guy.

My list so far:

1. Shinji Ikari, (Evangelion) Especially the shot of him naked behind the
pencil case. (Wimpy!)

2. Uzumaki Naruto (Naruto) (young AND annoying!)

3. Sagara Sousuke (Full Metal Panic) (getting older, but takes himself too seriously)

4. Shiro Kamui or Monou Fuma (X)

5. Bateau (Ghost in the Shell)

6. Alucard (Hellsing)

7. Alex Rowe (Last Exile)

8. Dark Schneider (Bastard - Especially spells which trash entire mountain
ranges.)

Any suggestions? (Except no DBZ - without giving things away those guys just WOULD NOT fit - trust me .. Even Alucard is a stretch so if we can replace him with a non-horror guy; perhaps Spike from Bebop, or Gene Starwind from Outlaw Star?)

It would also work better to select characters in regular, current time or SF time periods and a little less in lo-tech magical fantasy, traditional Japanese periods, or horror/majick stuff.

We need male characters themselves & not their mecha or auxiliary toys. Also, if dude #5 can look a little northern European or German, that would fit a certain 'in' joke.

Sanjo from Saiyuki, say 6 or 7

For something high on the "cool" scale you might also want to try Genzo from NieA Under 7 - an anime character who looks like an American surfer/skater dude complete with the shortened dreds, drawn in a very detailed style as anime characters go (NieA's an ABe).

By overdone do you mean like Fonz-style corny over-the-top cool, or Incredible Hulk-style steroid look? For the first description you might try Kamon (Naota's father) from FLCL (the James Bond wannabe scene from ep.4 or so comes to mind, or any of the cuts of his quasi-artistic/philisophical musings) or perhaps "Eyebrows" from the same series.

For the second, Jet from Bebop would probably fit fairly well, though there's probably someone even more bulked up in some old-school shounen or, better yet, Marvel/DC-style comics if you want some really ridiculously exaggerated masculinity.

Kamon's Nazi uniform from the fake-gun-battle scene of FLCL might fit your "German" theme, if that's the kind of in-joke you're going for.

If not, you could go with practically any tall, thin, blonde character for the stereotypical Scandinavian look. The record label president from Gravitation comes to mind, though blonde anime characters are surprisingly abundant.

For a couple of normal, middle-of-the-road looking modern guys, there's Hideki and Shinbo from Chobits.

Yuuhi from Ayashi no Ceres (the guy can kill people w/ CHOPSTICKS; thus why my sister likes him better than Touya)

Oh hell, watch this video by Arigatomyna; there's a good amount of bishies in it, and hopefully you can get some ideas (don't steal it though
