Questions on the JACON 2004 AMV Contest.

Post by Snackpants » Mon Jan 19, 2004 12:08 am

There have been a few questions circulating... and Normally I dont worry about the JACON contest until after MegaCon... but figured I would answer the most important questions I hear.

1.) You will need to have purchased a membership to JACON 2004 to compete. You do not need to be present to win, but you must have purchased a membership.

2.) Each contestant will be allowed to enter 2 videos.

3.) All videos entered may not have competed in a previous AMV Contest.

4.) Only digital submissions will be accepted again.

If you have any pre-lim questions prior to the official posting of the rules, feel free to mail me at joeysnackpants@hotmail.com or guests@jacon.org

Is this the first year that JACON is doing this? I know that requiring entrants in the contest to register was tossed around on some threads as a solution to trolling, but I'm curious as to whether or not this is the first time this has been implimented...

I got sidetracked with a lot of things, and I just went to check on Jacon's website and it says Pre-Registration is over. Am I barred from entering the contest?

Here's a better Idea Joey, why don't you just go ahead and given Jacon an official Entry Fee since that's basically what you're doing.

Need not present to win and yet we have to buy memberships to compete?

I think JACON is the only con that actually has this type of policy and personally I believe is a load of crap for several reaons (which I will list if you want to debate about it).

Either that or Jacon must really be heavy in debt for you to have this entry fee policy two years in a row.

E-mail Snackpants... go to the Jacon link in his original post and read the AMV contest rules. It's all there. The upload deadline is the 30th.

Let me try to put my grasp of things with reasons to make you purchase a membership. I believe they want people that enter to be present at the con, because nothing sucks more than to see a video win and the editor not be there. So basically if that's the contest you want to run, required attendence, then people would be purchasing a membership anyway.

Now lets say Vlad plans on going, and enters a video. Last minute hoopla comes up and Vlad can't make it. However he wins a category in the contest, being prejudged. Now everyone that came might complain that he shouldn't win because it's required attendance. If he preordered his membership then we know for sure that he had intentions of coming to the con, and wasn't just entering his video into the contest for public distribution.

I don't see how Ken could further amend the entry rules to make it that only people attending the con can enter. Especially if the outcome of the contest is determined before the con even starts.

If you don't like it, take your videos to some other con, one that could possibly use them even. If you're not attending a con then I don't think you should enter.

I still think it's best to only enter to cons you attend.
