What kind of things can you do with Premiere?

Post by sacome » Tue Apr 27, 2004 8:34 pm

Well, i juts downloaed the top video in the top 10% video's and i'm amazed. Are all those effects available in adobe premiere?

Do you guys really think it is worth $600, i know AMV's are a full time hobby to many but that would take a while to save up for. :(

No AfterFX. Premiere is a video editing program. Although you can do many "effects" using plug ins and masking layers, text and some image manipulations, its main function is organizing (editing) footage. Extremely complex effects like compositing and 3D use secondary programs like AfterFX. But many of the same techniques can be simulated using Photoshop and Illustrator.

A, it's After Effects.

B, not all great videos need After Effects. An amazing amount of stuff can be done in Premiere if you use it to its full capacity, and especially if you can integrate things like Photoshop. AE is a useful tool, but you should crawl before you walk. Also, as the perennially overused example, Koop made Euphoria with $50 software and MS Paint, so anything's possible if you know what you're doing...

Ok, thanks. 3 more things.

1. do you need a disc to run premiere or is it just installed with a install disc. I ask because if me and my friend go halves on it will we both be able to just install it and one of us keeps the main copy. Also on the subject can backups be made of premiere>?

2. what are the system requirements of premiere.

3. does anybody have a site, forum, topic that has all the main information about all the prgrams you can use for AMV's?

As for premiere, check into buying an educational version, runs about 200 bucks. Basically the same thing as the 600 dollar version. Premiere pro requires windows xp. If you can find an older copy of Premiere like 6 or 6.5, that has quite low system requirements. Premiere Pro 1.5 comes out next month and I would highly suggest getting that version, as it adds a ton of great features.

3. http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/avtech/ Out of date and stuff. Getting updated VERY soon.

I believe it's something like $5.15 an hour.

I wouldn't know how the cost of living stacks up to that of other countries though.
