Awsome Idea for 3ds max and an amv... but I need help
First off does anyone here know anything about 3ds Max R3?
More specifically how to create 2d interfaces in a 3d environment.

Sweat... then I'll try and ask.
Ok... .have ever watched the sci-fi channel or Earth: Final Conflict?
When it comes to Sci-Fi Channel, about 1 yr ago they had this thing going on were the "comming up next" cut scenes and commercials looked like a 2d interface (I.E. 2 o'clock was activated and a rollout or extention was created to explain the upcomming program) But it was in a 3d environment so, when 3 o'clock was activated the 2o'clock schedule would retreate to the background or be shuffled behind the 3 o'clock shedule. something like that
when it comes to Earth: Final Conflict, they had these navigation screens (holographic looking) that would appear in order to navigation the ships. They were kind of like touch screen holographs that controlled the ship.
cofused yet? lol. well, any reply and help is appreciated! thank you

x2 on what Zarxrax said.
It's been a while since I moved to Lightwave but...
Create your planes, but adjust your render output, so you don't get realistic light shading, if all you want is moving image mattes.
Also, since you are rendering your clip in a nice nifty made for rendering program, you might as well make your alpha mattes at the same time so you can do your transparency. I can't remember if you can render them at the same time, or if you need another render pass...
You could also just set your background as a chroma key color.
Obviously if you have your animation sequences (control panels, talking heads, or whatever) then you might want to apply them in Max instead of doing it post with premiere or after effects.

lol... Long time no hear from me... huh!
OK, To start out with. I've never really used After Effects! lol. I have it. But I'm new to it completely! I want to add character to my video and what better way to do that, than to give it atmosphere or dimension. thats why I want to do this panel/layer/control panel thing. in a 3d environment.
I know this next thing is going to be a bit off toppic, but... I just bought the new edition of New Type USA. (Awsome magazine) It had it's usual free dvd. this series is called Kaleido Star. at the end of the episode it has a (what I like to call) memories on film animation/effect. Basically, this is where they make is look like you're watching the actual film (negatives) in motion. with the left and right black colums with white squares. I want to know how to create that. I made a close to perfect representation on premiere... but I have not learned the technique of animating sequences yet. (I.E. creating a motion version of what I made) anybody any good at that?

Probably would have gotten a more comprehensive answer in a new topic. Anyway, here goes: It doesn't look all that hard.Angel's Shadow wrote: Kaleido Star. at the end of the episode it has a (what I like to call) memories on film animation/effect. Motion settings on a couple layers for the filmstrip effects to get the jitter, and some filters for the old film effect on your clip.
