an easier way?
ok so i heve read a&e's guide to all things video. my question is is there an easier way? all the programs i have downloaded and i still cant view my footage in premiere. it just seems like a lot of programs for just ripping footage and putting into avi or mpeg footage. i have been reading this stuff for about 4 hours now and i still havent gotten anywhere. someone please help i dont care that every line in the video is perfect or everysound is crisp i just want to be able to sit down in front of my computer and mess around with footage just so its easier to see if an idea will really work. i guess you guys can tell im a noob so i just stop before i piss off to many of you guys and never get a straight ansewer

Seems like this problem should be in video software help.
Where exactly is it that you are getting stuck?
1: smartripper puts .vob files on the hard drive
2: dvd2avi create .d2v project files from these
3: Avisynth scripts allow you to read these (saved as "all files" in notepad right?)in v-dub
4: creation of a smallish (yet still large) editing file in vdub
5: editing the smallish (yet still large) editing file in premiere
6: after saving your work, many crashes and lots of cursing... pizza helps.
7: Replace the smallish (yet still large) editing files with the original .avs files you used to create them with
8: export your video in huffyuv (not small at all, in fact very large)
9: compress using divx compatible xvid
I'm sure I missed some stuff, but that seems to be the basics here... less than ten steps. You'd have to do more at an AA meeting.

To sum it up :
1 - you rip the DVD with Smartripper, then you get vobs on your hard drive
2 - an easy way, though not the one recommended is A&E's guide, is to compress the vobs into avi (for example HuffYUV, you'll need lots of space) with any application that can do that (GordianKnot, DVD2AVi...)
3- you can open these avi files with your Editing sofware (example : Premiere)
Personally, instead of the 2nd step, I do :
2a - open the vobs with DVD2AVi and save a .d2v project
2b - write an avisynth file
2c - open the avisynth file with virtual dub, select the clips, and export them in (avi) HuffYUV.
Could you tell which one of these steps is a problem for you ?
