Industrial/Elektro Music in AMV's?

Post by pulse state » Thu Apr 22, 2004 11:37 am

I would love to see more AMV's cut to industrial/elektro songs. Bands like Blutengel, [:SITD:], Rotersand, Plastic, Pride and Fall, Suicide Commando, Amduscia, Dulce Liquido, Terminal Choice and the like would be awesome to see anime put with them. Some of the more specific ones I have ideas for would be:

[:SITD:] - Hurt, Snuff Machinery, Rose-Coloured Skies
Rotersand - Merging Oceans
Blutengel - Die With You, Children of the Night, Vampire Romance Part I, In the Distance, Love-Killer (and yes, I am aware there is an AMV out there with I'm Dying Alone)
Terminal Choice - She's the Devil, Engelstod, The Witch-Hunter, Armageddon
Pride and Fall - December
Plastic - Lies
Suicide Commando - Face of Death, Deliver Us from Evil, Hellraiser (VNV Nation Remix), Love Breeds Suicide, Mordfabrik, Cause of Death - Suicide, Better Off Dead

Anyone else have similar ideas?

Actually, ya.
Problem is, if you go through many of the videos that use EBM and Electro Industrial, they suck (IMO). The genre can be hard to work with, as it may be too emotional to some and too blatant and straight forward to others.

Yep, some people have similar ideas (not necessarily any of those songs, granted, but some similar stuff), but in my case, at least, I haven't gotten to those projects yet (and I may abandon them if I feel they won't end up working out... we'll see).
If I'm lucky, I'll get around to doing the video to Velvet Acid Christ's Pretty Toy that I've got kicking around, or perhaps the video to Red 7 Fury's The One Thing, but I take a long while to work on AMVs, and I've got two projects in progress ahead of those right now :(

If you're willing to branch just barely out of industrial/EBM into Goth, and like the Cruxshadows, my wife has a couple vids up - look up the userid kasra_WTF.

While I'd like to not spill too much info on my next multi-editor project, I'll say three letters and leave it at that: VNV.

Actually, the only AMV I ever made is on a BlutEngel song, with footage of Kenshin. And you guys are right: it IS too sentimental, and obvious. I used -Black Roses- to go with the whole Trust and Betrayal movie (OVA).

It was just a personal thing: I wanted to match those two materials because it was indeed easy to...well, match.

But I haven't actually seen any darkwave/techno AMVs....Too bad their supposedly bad

Thanks for the heads-up. I love The Crüxshadows, especially their latest studio-work! I will have to check those out.

Also, good choice on that VAC, some (not all) of their songs are good, but I do like "Pretty Toy".

Well, I could definitely see the problem with using elektro-industrial in those videos. It seems that all the lyrical content of every song in that genre falls into three categories: the lyrics that are emotional beyond reason (VNV Nation, Angels & Agony, and Assemblage 23), the lyrics that are kind of silly or not very convincing (Blutengel, Funker Vogt, and Terminal Choice), and the lyrics that just plain don't make sense (X-Marks the Pedwalk, Covenant, and Front Line Assembly).

That's really too bad, because although the lyrics are flawed, that is my favourite genre of music. :/ Still, it's good that you used "Black Roses" for an AMV. I myself immediately thought of Blutengel at first for use in an AMV, because I have been watching Hellsing lately and, due to the subject-matter, Blutengel's "Children of the Night" or "Vampire Romance Part I" came to mind. :)

Oh, and that's the other thing I forgot to mention: Predictability.
You gotta realize that using Industrial and Electro/EBM will generally make a video very predictable, and in that essence, boring. When you mix anime and Industrial, you get a lack of attitude, which can make or break an AMV (same goes with movies in general: Attitude = VEELLLLLY GOOOOOD).
I'm going to shut up now, before someone points out that I have never submitted a serious AMV during the my entire time as a member here...
