Actually, if everyone agrees that my video is ripe for picking, you can move it to the "complete" area.

In which case I'll also send you the 140-meg, top-notch version for project purposes - obviously, you'll need something better to work with than a 480x320 encode

Yea, I'll try to be as inactive as I can tomorrow, since I have two exams for which I hardly studied (thank you AMV's)

But after that, I'll get to WIP's and brainstorming again.
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Speaking of brainstorming, I'm thinking of doing a Trey Gunn video next (assuming I ever finish this one. ) As our resident expert do you have any sugestions Otohiko? If I can't decide on a Gunn/Frip/KC piece I'll probably end up doing a Jazz song. Either way it would be something I may or may not finish in time for the project. Actually that why I bring it up, I normally wouldn't think of my next video while I'm still working on one but I think the prject could really use a short jazz piece. Anyone have any idea what kind of timeline were looking at here? I'm going to try to pick up the pace on this one and see how fast I can finish it (Or at least get a full length beta.)

Ugh, not sure what song to use

Post by NeoQuixotic » Tue Apr 20, 2004 10:16 pm

I've been searching through my music collection to find a good song to use with Eva. Some ideas are a Star Wars track, LOTR:ROTK "The End of All Things", and maybe a jazz-techno piece. I'm still kind of a newbie, but I'm a darn persistant one :P ! Also I've been thinking about using Digimon  for a video. Is there a deadline when all projects have to be completed? If so I don't want to start a very long and complicated video. In recap, I'm leaning towards an Evangelion video done to "The End of All Things". Oh wait, I've seen almost all the other vids now and I like all of them. Just hope I can be up to par  .

Pen-Pen: The Jacques Loussier version of Bach's "Gavotte" is a pretty cool jazz piece, in my opinion, as is Miles Davis' "So What". Not especially short, though.

Otohiko: Final encode - bring it on. Just not tonight - I need to take the FTP offline agian if I'm going to have sufficient resources to continue editing with CinePaint (damn memory hog programs...).

Adds second computer for use as server to list of stuff that'll sponge up my money this summer...

BakaDeshi: Yeah, some of the WIPs are pretty big, but in all fairness my video is 13 minutes long, and the 50MiB version was really ugly.
may seeds of dreams fall from my hands -
and by yours be pressed into the ground.

Well, I can suggest a lot of good things, depending on what you want to do with them. To be honest, I was kind of looking in that direction again myself - or at least into something like 'the League of Crafty Guitarists'.

Gunn has a lot of Arabic influences (I believe one of his albums is based on the Koran), but also seems to take a cue from funk. Which is why the Bebop Movie came to mind for me (because you have that nice long Moroccan market scene, but then Spike and co. are all funky  ). 'Sozzle' (not sure if it's on the FTP) comes to mind as something more funky-leaning and would make a better action video with a nice quieter break in the middle, and 'Brief Encounter' is a bit more Arabic but subdued - and they're both not too long (just over 4.5 min). 'The Joy of Molibdenium' is pretty cool, but it's longer and a bit less flavored either way...

Again, something I'd like to do (though I'd have to either get that DVD from my friend or pony up and buy it at the local Wal-Mart...)

Fripp has a huge variety of stuff, which is really all over the place but does have that western lean for the most part. I don't really recommend most of his ambient stuff for AMV's - I'd imagine most people would fall asleep to that sort of music. But then there's two major areas of interest: electric solo stuff, mostly with The League of Crafty guitarist, which is usually more upbeat, fast-picking music, or some solo/collaborative electric stuff from stuff on 'Exposure' (see 'Breathless' on the FTP) to SusTaynZ, which are pretty much ambient overdriven guitar, if there's such a thing...

King Crimson has too much stuff, so it again depends on what you're looking for, going all the way from ambient to classical-like to jazz to pretty much straight metal. One very interesting piece I would like to have done sometime is something with their "Power to Believe II", which really has that 'world music/ambient' feel to it, going from an Arabic sort of melody at the outset to Asian-sounding bells/percussion in the middle. A lot of interesting stuff going on, but another question is what to do with it.

Frankly, I don't know yet what I want to do myself... but it better be good

Jumping into AVS, woo hoo!

Post by NeoQuixotic » Wed Apr 21, 2004 3:21 pm

I've decided that I need to re-rip my Eva DVD's since I did a horrible DivX rip. In addition to this I'm gonna try and learn AviSynth. I'm using Vegas 4 and I thought I heard I need an additional program for Vegas to work with avs scripts. If any of you know, I would be very thankful. Or maybe I should just skip this and learn it sometime later.

What about already-completed-and-released AMV's?

I've uploaded a peice that originates from the "Final Sumoning" theme from final fantasy X, but its remixed up a bit. (Jared Hudson - The Final Summoning) The atmosphere in it gave me an idea using Record of Lodus War footage (the original OVAs) in a sortof story telling mode. It could also work with a Dark anime like Hellsing or maybe even Berserk. Hellsing I don't have access to, But I can rent Berserk. I think I want to stick with Lodus war though, as I have more ideas using that anime. Infact it'll probably be similar in nature to my AR vid, but more varied in speed, not all fast segments, and not quite as mood heavy. As you can see by the song if you check it out.

I also checked out 3 of the projects WIPs so far, and This is what I have to say about them:

Otohiko: O_O man you've done it again... Everytime I watch your videos I feel like I'm watching a movie made for the theaters. The quality of your editing and how smooth everything falls into place is that good, Even though its so simple. I couldn't find a thing to complain about.

Rose4emily: Interesting concept. I like the whole black and white thing. makes it feel sorta mangaish, yet at the same time fits the mood of the song well. I found it to be a bit slow for me though... But that probably depends on personal taste. A few things I think could realy spice it up though, And You did this in various places throughout your amv already which is what gave me the idea. When the music picks up pace at 01:55, you picked up the action some wich is good, but at certain places, like at 2:23, I think it would be realy cool to synch some of the action to the highlights in the song. For example, At this particular scene (02:23) You could synch her opening and closing her mouth to the violin notes that play strongly in that segment of the song. (It does look like you synched her having her hand with the hankercheif to it though) A little detail that could be inpressive is if you synched the helmet dropping (and maybe bouncing a few times) off the floor at 02:28) to the beat aswell...
03:13 this parts obvious :p pushing in the thing in his forhead to the beat could be neat aswell. Actually I think AD did something like this in his shameless rock vid... maybe that gave me the idea.
03:28 : I thought about maybe synching the flashing lights to the same violin (or maybe its a guitar?) notes.
And especially in the part 03:36-03-46 would be neat to lipsync to the music, rather than you would normally to talking. if that makes any sence. Like they are "speaking" the notes. Ofcourse this would lend a somewhat comedic feel to this part of the amv, so if this isn;t what you want then probably not include it. Theres a few other places like this, but i don't want to seem like i'm trying to write your amv for ya ;p Just wanted to give an idea of what I was thinking, Just to give you ideas.
Overall the vid is turning out pretty nice, though a bit loooong ;p

Pen-Pen:
O_O I thought this was live action at first... what is it? I don;t recognize the anime at all. Your editing is pretty top notch throughout, liked the action synch like the S.O.S flashing. fades done well. Space segment at around 1:30s seem to carry on a little long though. Overall the video has a very creepy feel to it, like your expecting something to happen at anytime and you don;t know what it is that will happen, but that its probably something bad ;p The oldschool quality opening sequence helps to set this mood up in the very begining aswell, with the memories title and the stills.
A few places where I felt the timing could be tighter:

your transitions at around 01:15, the second one seemed a tad bit late.
01:31 : the video freeze frames here for like half a second wich makes your following sequence seem a bit late.

01:38 This scene's timing seems slightly off for each one, perhaps a very short fade transition (little longer than you already seem to be doing) into each following scene would make it smoother? Basically maybe making the transition the same length as the "high" note on each of the violin strokes. (you know how theres a high and low sound kinda, hard to explain, i'm not realy a musician ;p)

at 01:59 the flashes here look good, though it could be timed a bit "tighter" if you zoom up on the timeline and basically just fine-tune them.

02:11 the third transition for this section of the song seemed a bit late again. (note these are nitpick level, not glaring errors)

02:42 - Briliant fade on the music here. Helps the whole mood. don't change a thing.

02:56 franticly lookign around scene here realy helps the mood, don;t take this out either ;p

is this the end, or you are still working on it?

AMyway overall I liked all 3 vids, good job on them so far. I only pointed out things I thought would help and things that realy stood out to me in this post, as I'm trying to mainly just be helpfull and cut out all the "great job on this and that " stuff that you don't realy need to hear yet till its done ;p

Still have to check out the 4th one.

Well, actually, you can be perfectly serious - my Wasteland has been accepted as far as I know, and it was made a good two months before the project started, and DWP's awesome Clair de Lune vid was in the works for a long time before it as I understand.

If you got it, let us take a look - it could be a good addition.

Sure as hell it is :D

Again, read the details in the first post in the thread and the webpage, and contact rose4emily. The only thing changed since is getting rid of the 16:9 rule, which makes it all the more open.
Bakadeshi [AuN Studios] wrote:O_O I thought this was live action at first... what is it? I don;t recognize the anime at all.
I believe it's Memories: Magnetic Rose. Memories is kind of like a movie or OAV, only it's composed of 3 different short films. The more I see of it, the more I want to get the thing

Again?!

This time though, Pen-Pen gets a lot of credit since his feedback from early on steered my out of mundane pointless action territory, and all without painful amounts of re-editing

And that's another reason to love the project.

Got a two-day break between exams - see if I can get to some WIP before it ends again...
