Post by bum » Sun Apr 18, 2004 11:53 am

so has anyone tried this codec pack ? how does it compare to nimo and gorian knot ? its too damn big for me to download unless i can go to a broadband blessed freinds place. anyway, im wondering about the real and quicktime alternatives. do they work the way they should ? no-one uses real anymore (well, mabey for streaming) but alot of trailers and stuff are being released in mov. anyway, whats your opp on this (fucking huge) codec pack ?

oh and, if ya want the codec pack ya can get it from http://www.kdp.2ya.com/

Codec packs are, and forever will be for people too stupid to hunt down a codec themselves.

i've had good luck with the real and qt alternatives - they even work with browser integration!

i wouldn't be so quick to dismiss codec packs - the k-lite mega pack is great, imo, right after a fresh install of windows. OMG I INSTALLED ALL MY CODECS ONE BY ONE IM SO LEET

It's also nice this way because you don't get a bunch of bloated shit that you don't need.

Give me ffdshow and default windows mpeg decoder.

all I need.

Seriously, I don't know why people are so adament about having every damn codec out there, when you aren't even ever gunna use them. Just get the latest ffdshow, then if you happen to ever need anything else, install them on a need-to-have basis. Its not that hard.

Its not good when it introduces possible incompatibilities between codecs, or installs codecs that hijack something.

Hey. I just noticed I'm in your sig

If your a complete and total dumbass when it comes to codecs, like me, packages like this are extremely valuable. Hopefully it has the Indeo codec that I so deperately want.

Hey man, it's true about the WMM9 and HuffyYuv codec.
