The main reason I do that is because when I don't, I get yelled at for not following lyrical sync.

First off, I dont think its in line to really compare actual music videos to AMVs.

In a music video there is a director. He or she decides how the video is to look and the feeling they want it to ocnvey. An AMV is quite different. The anime has a director but the AMV creator has to use what he is given. We cant look at a lyric and then just make the scene we want appear. We have to work with what we are given and this usually forces more people to show their talent in their work.

There are many different types and forms of AMVs. Some of which are closer to the fealing of a 'live-action video' and others that are way off from it. If the earlier is your cup of tea then you will just have to look harder

For example, if the word "walking" is sung in the song, usually there will actually be a person (anime character) walking in video while the word "walking" is said.
I mean its cool to literally sync the actions to the lyrics however when it is over used the video becomes extremely predicatable. Especially when I already know the words.
Isnt that the purpose of AMV's....well not much as the purpose but the art in making one(to try and sync the actions to the lyrics).

You wont make a amv with a love song, and match it to an anime thats all about killing. Its like trying to mix a britney spears song to hellsing... if just doesnt go with it.
Shitty sig... i should make another one >_<

Way ahead of you there.
Dragonball Z to a Celine Dion song coming up next week or so.

I personally find excessive lyrical syncing to be lame, too. I believe that many times, matching the video to the literal words can work well, but I find that often, the flow of the video will be disrupted because the creator found footage that matched the words at that point and decided it was necessary to put that in.

Of course, my solution is to either use instrumentals or songs with words I don't understand.

Hellooooo Guilty Gear music.

x2; all I know is that it makes my job easier and more amusing at the same time.

Well, at least I find it amusing.
