Really need AMVapp beta testers

Post by AbsoluteDestiny » Fri Apr 16, 2004 6:30 pm

I really need people to come forward who are willing to test out the new AMVapp on their system. I only have my own system to test this with and I am not releasing a new program until I know it works on other operating systems with other things installed.

So. Who wants to give it a try? You must not be in the middle of a video and you must have a windows install of some kind but other than that anyone can give it a try.

Obviously Premiere users (5,6 or Pro) would be very useful too as there is a new Premiere AVS Plugin to try out as well.

So please give me a hand and test out the program for me. PM, IM or email me - I dont care which - and I will send you the program. Then all I need in return is a report on:

1) What OS you used
2) If it all installed correctly and if not why not.
3) If it all *uninstalled* correctly and if not why not.
4) If all the programs work, have correct links etc...

I'll look forward to seeing all you volunteers and I'm sure it wont mess up your system that badly if it doesn't work :)

Is the rule about not being in the middle of a project just so we can't blame you for our loss? I can re-install everything I currently have if I need to.

Well I dont want to interfere with the way you have things set up now.

Some of the elements of the AMVapp may seem the same but will give you different results. If you used the decomb that came with the last amvapp, for example, and tried to use the same scripts in this one you will find they wont work because that filter has changed.

There are ways in the new app to use old versions (loadlegacydecomb() is a function I have defined) but really I dont want any incompatibilities to arise from old clashing with new.

If you know what you are doing then fine but I'd rather most people didn't take the risk.

But other than that, I have a bran new computer with no other editing programs but Adobe 6.0 on it, so :P it's all fresh and ready.

Sure, I'm game, why the hell not. I'll IM you when I get home from work AD. I was just about to clean wipe my Transportable too, so this would be a good time I suppose.

Well so far it seems the main bug is that Windows XP seems to like holding on to any previously installed versions of Lame.acm so wont let the AMVapp write a new one... which sucks.

I might try a rename+delete approach if the file is detected. If someone who has had this problem can message me then I can send them just the lame installer to test out.

Hey AD, I sent in an e-mail describing what happened yesterday from my dorks_ account. If you could send an e-mail back to that account with a link to any new lame installer, I'll give it a shot and see if it works.

I think I'll test this, too...

I've been wondering anyway,
1) there was shit coming out of an IVTC with decomb 5 on my computer (absolutely jaggy pans) and
2) how this thing can open d2v files, since ANY version of mpeg2dec3 for avisynth 2.5x messed up the interlacing of the dvd because it directly imported it in YV12 although DVDs are in YUV2...

1) There is no such thing as YUV2 - if you mean YUY2 then you are wrong again - DVDs use YV12. The old guides simplified colorspace descriptions into RGB and YUV so did not discuss YV12.

2) "Jaggy pans" will depend massively on the decimation method and pattern guidance. Decomb 5 has lots of methods for all sorts of footage types - there is no 'one setting suits all' so you need to be careful about which options you choose.

If, for some reason, you don't like the new decomb you can actually use this command

loadlegacydecomb()

Which I included inthe amvapp. It will do things exactly the way they were in the old amvapp.
