Phade: regarding the problems with certain browsers, the issue would seem that these browsers don't conform to the specification properly, right? Though shouldn't it be trivial to simply make a CSS file with workarounds for the specific browsers that have issues? Then you could maybe have a javascript detect and automatically load the correct CSS file for them?

I have a similar problem at work which has IE 5.5 or something (not 6.5+ like at home). It's not a big problem since I should be using mozilla here at work anyway (if they let me install it :-/).Phade wrote:Hey SQ,
Yeah, I don't have a Mac to test things with. The guy that I had look at the site with his Mac did not have IE installed. He tested it with Safari, Camino, Firefox, and Mozilla on the Mac and they all worked just fine. The only thing I can suggest is to use one of those browsers. Microsft has stopped making IE for Mac and so there will be no more updates to it. Microsoft even suggests switching browsers.SQ wrote:The new page is definetly NOT Mac compatible. As you can see here: Please fix this?
Sorry for the trouble.

Hey,
dwchang: Firefox is nice in that there aren't any system changes needed to "install" it. With version 0.7, the "installer" was basically just an unzip of the executable. You could literally just unzip and start using. With 0.8, they have an "installer" look and feel, but I think it's still just a glorified unzip process.

Yes, this is one possible work-around for the issues. However, I do not have the proper testing environment (meaning I don't have a copy of all major operating systems and associated browsers). Without a testing environment, there is no way for me to know of all issues before release nor an easy way for me to correct issues without testing. If you know of a web site or something that I can type in a URL or upload some files and it will show me what the page looks like on variouse browsers/OS-es, that would be helpful.Zarxrax wrote:Phade: regarding the problems with certain browsers, the issue would seem that these browsers don't conform to the specification properly, right? You can use the service for free for up to 8 hours after you register... I guess this could be circumvented though by getting a buddy to do it for you if your time runs out. Allows you to see screen captures of the site running on a ton of different browsers and at different resolutions.
I just tested it out and it looks pretty good for the most part... some of the screen caps that it showed were totally messed up though... on a couple the web browser wasnt even running!

Phade I have found a bug in the new page layout. The problem is that the data in one of the right side boxes was too long to fit inside the box. On the old layout, the main section of the page would shrink to accomodate for the larger right side boxes.
Here is a pic from Firefox 0.8:

Everything stays the same size, but the text runs outside of the box.
And from IE 6.0:

The right side box stretches, but the main section does not shrink. Thus, the right side gets pushed down under the main section.

Hey Zarxrax,
That bug is caused by people putting in stupidly long titles with no spaces. :-\ Why some people feel compelled to replace all the spaces in their title with underscores is beyond me. I guess I could switch underscores to spaces when printing there. As is, different browsers break the design in different ways.
The Opera error in the current style sheet has to do with the global stats titles and values not lining up correctly.

Well you would still have trouble when people have a long title without even any underscores :\
Anyways one alternative is to simply end the line with "..." and chop off the rest, rather than splitting the line, which can lead to confusion, since it would be hard to tell where one title ends and another begins there.
