Usually cons will sacrfice high file sizes to assure the best possible quality of the videos being played. I would highly suggest making some nice MPEG2 encodes if you plan on entering a con.

you can send two versions if you want, it's just that WMV is an overly compressed format, which in the pro world ends up as "lossy", as in it loses quality when it is compressed. Every compression codec, picture, music, video, etc.. is lossy to some degree, only raw data files, that are uncompressed, can be of the highest quality.

an average $.15 CD-R has 650-750 mbs of space now, which can hold at least one uncompressed five minute music video.

I also recommend you encode in a nice mpeg-2, which is standard DVD quality, you should be able to fit a few videos onto a CD-R with that.

BTW, our final cut of the AMV contest, as outlined in the rules, will be cut to a DVD, so filesize of each individual video is not a problem, you can send in a 600 meg AMV if you want.

Hmm... yea, I think I'll send one, or maybe two. My worry is the length of my better video, so I suppose I'll send it in and let you decide whether it would be worth the alotted time.
