A quick and really dumb question about Sesshomaru from I-Y

That...thing around his arm and down his back. Errr, what is it? I can't tell from any of the pictures I've seen, and I'm d/ling some Inu-Yasha AMVs now for a clue, although most of them don't seem to have much of him in them. Looked on some sites off Anipike, but I didn't find an answer there either.

I think it's fur, that much is pretty clear. Is it...light, or heavy? Where does it attach? O_o

Or if anyone has a site they could direct me to on the topic (with that answer ^_^; ) I'd be much obliged.

I'm trying to figure out how I'd make one, as someone asked for an estimate on a cosplay costume of him, and I have never seen the show nor the manga.
