Hmmm...
I still don't really get it...
When you click a local download link, you get a page that says:

The download should automatically start in 1 seconds. If it does not, a link will appear in 1 seconds.

The download should have automatically started by now. If it did not, click here.

And you click on the link there to download it :|

Am I missing something? Are you proposing that the site give direct links to the videos? Like http://a-m-v.org/crappyvid.mpg ?

I'm saying that there shouldn't be the automatic reload to the video file. That starts automatically, I have to cancel it, and then wait 60 seconds. But consider the case of someone who doesn't fully understand what's going on--they'll have to download twice, ultimately wasting both time and bandwidth.

I'm with Zarxrax on this one. I've got dementia patients who make more sense than this thread.

Firstly. Why are you streaming anyway?
If it starts on it own and that's what you want to do, where's the peroblem?
If you want to download it instead of streaming it, either wait out the 60 seconds or whatever it is between download attempts or change your settings to download.

The videos don't have URLs per se. Deal with it.

This is the kind of thing that should not depend on the users' settings like this. Furthermore, it would (or at least, should) be a very minor change to fix this. If you don't understand the issue, why are you commenting here?

Finally, with respect to your last statement: I really don't think this should degenerate into a flame war. Frankly, I don't even care how you feel about this, unless you are someone who can implement this change. I was under the impression that this forum was for "site suggestions," and so I'm suggesting something. It bothered me and someone recommended I post it here. I don't see how a fellow user, saying little more than "deal with it," can add to this discussion.

If you use WMP9 to stream the video, it can also save it... ditto if you use the Quicktime plugin to play MPEGs right in your browser.

WHAT HE IS SAYING IS that his browser opens it up in a window and won't let him save it to his HDD. The link provided is NOT a link to the video, but a link to an url which from THERE REDIRECTS YOUR DOWNLOAD to the videos actual location. He wants A DIRECT LINK to the videos actual location, and NOT an url that THEN redirects your download.
Maybe through some fluke, I can understand an abstract conversation, but it seems like the most likely answer is that half the world is retarded.
JUST SO YOU ALL UNDERSTAND:
You go to dl page, with 10 second delay
A VERY QUICK url opens, which then redirects you to download the video.
That IS NOT you going from dl page to the direct video location. There IS an url right before it you see the window to save file, which is used to open the said window to save file.
If you DO NOT understand this, then just shut up.

oh, and if Phade or another admin wants to shoot me down and prove this wrong, then go for it.
I am only acting as an interpretor.

Yes, I see that he's after a Direct link to the videos location. And IMO Phade's more likely to open up the Off Topic forums than change the Local downloads to give out Direct Links. This is a truely bizzare excuse for such a thing, not to mention a stupid one.

I know what he's asking for, and I'm trying to say that it's not necessary.
