Good way to offload anime I don't want?

Post by SarahtheBoring » Wed Apr 07, 2004 6:23 pm

Okay, I've been buying this stuff for a couple of years now, and I'm at the point where I don't actually watch - or want - everything I have. Some of it is due to switching from tapes to DVDs, and some is from getting multiples of the same things for whatever reason.

So. Since letting it collect dust on my proverbial shelf is a waste, what would you all recommend for getting rid of them? Used CD/DVD stores? (or do they give you, like, 50c each?) I don't have an Ebay account; would it be worthwhile to do that? Ditto half.com; I've never tried that either. Ask around if anyone wants them? Throw them into the air at a con and hope somebody catches them? Melt them down into decorative lawn sculpture? I'm out of college and thus can't join an anime club, so swapping them isn't an option.

Right now I have oh, maybe four tapes - mostly older dubbed stuff - and three DVDs, from getting multiples. The tapes are going to be hard to get rid of, the DVDs less so.

Any advice? If so, thanks.

ebay is good if you have rare items, or do private trades with people

E-bay is good, although i'm not sure you would get very much money. Definitely check out used CD/DVD stores, they pay better than you think, especially if you bought your tapes/DVDs new. They give about half of whatever they would sell for if you were trying to buy them. If you have any friends that are into this stuff ask them if they would pay however much money, or if you're desperate, for free. Umm, I dunno, use your imagination I guess.
-Are children who act in rated 'R' movies allowed to see them?
-Do they have girl’s bathrooms in gay bars?

Nah, nothing rare. The DVDs are Trigun and Utena; the tapes ... offhand, I need to look at what's still at my mom's house, but offhand, the Utena Movie, Demon City Shinjuku, Nadia 1, one random Ranma 1/2 tape, Vampire Hunter D (the first one), and Mononoke. I could probably also sell Brain Powered, after getting my poorly-judgmented friend's permission. That might be it.

So nothing rare, no.

I am the biggest anime nerd among the people I know IRL, so trading/selling in person's not possible. ;) I may check out a used store, if they actually do give half-decent prices sometimes.

Thanks for the advice. :)

Give them all to me!!

Besides that I am not exactly sure, Ebay is a bit of a pain to use so I would have to agree with the shops idea etc..

Give them all to little children and teach them the truth .... and that is that pokemon yugiho and dbz are not the only animes that exist... maybe not utena and ranma ... I've heard stories about them having problems covering them selves in the later part of the series

AnimeNation has a trade in program you can try.

You could also try selling your tapes and DVDs at a local video store if they buy back used videos. I don't know about where you live but my local HASTINGS store (a kind of all purpose entertainment store) gave me over $50 for 4 of my DVDs. Of course, the value is based on the "resale" value of the title; the more recent/new = more $.

You could also simply solicite to anyone interested in buying from you. Though I would not use the forum for any transactions/discussions. If you have a website, best place to do it.
