Thrash fans only [Heathen is back]

Post by Kai Stromler » Tue Apr 06, 2004 9:22 am

Do you own a jacket with a back patch?
Is your favorite Blind Guardian album available only from Virgin Europe?
Have you ever given somebody the finger for wearing a shirt from a poser band?
Do you know multiple ways to headbang?
Do you own a Spastic Children bootleg?
Do you get the urge to scream "DON'T FOLLOW THE PREACHER!!" like Chuck Billy whenever anyone mentions organized religion?

If you answered yes to any of the questions above, there's a spot of bright news for you in a cosmos that tries to pass St. Anger off as thrash metal: Heathen, probably best known for their members' later work with Die Krupps, is back together, with a new album due later this year. And to celebrate, they've re-released their first two long-out-of-print albums, Breaking The Silence and Victims of Deception in mp3. You can get both at their website (click "media", I'm not direct linking for fear of mod bammage, even though this is the band's own bloody site).

Download the tracks, then queue 'em up; you're in for about 105 minutes of Grade A Bay Area Thrash Metal. If you dig Exodus, think Testament's just gone downhill since 1991, and wish that the bus had fallen on Lars instead of Cliff, you don't want to miss out on this. And buy the damn album when it comes out, or Paul Baloff will come back from the dead and kick your poser ass.

OPEN THE GRAVE!! \m/

I thought you were gonna refer to Google again

I'll grab these when I get home. I may not be much of a Trash Metal listener, but eh - any quality music should go over well with me. Besides, I always had my respect for the genre...-
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

If it's thrash or any music that I like, I don't refer to google unless they want lyrics

Goos stuff that music is.

Alright, a thrash metal topic!! \m/

Here's some of my favorite thrash albums:

Dark Angel - 'Darkness Descends'
Kreator - 'Pleasure to Kill'
Morbid Saint - 'Spectrum of Death'
Sadus - 'Chemical Exposure'
Slayer - 'Show No Mercy'
Anthrax - 'Among the Living'
Megadeth - 'Rust In Peace'
Sodom - 'Agent Orange' and 'Persecution Mania'
Coroner - 'Punishment For Decadence'

That's off the top of my head, I know there's plenty more.

By the way Kai, your Death avatar rules! They're my favorite band, next to Iron Maiden.

Imaginations From The Other Side is avalible on a US release, hence, this questions shouldn't be considered.

nailz: I was thinking more of the stripped-down Bay-Area thrash sound they had on Battalions... and Follow The Blind. Imaginations is an amazing album, but it hasn't exactly got that mile-a-minute garage vibe that makes the old Bay Area rule.

Sean: Awright! Another Show No Mercy fan! EVIL HAS NO BOUNDARIES!

Some other good thrash records:
Nuclear Assault - Handle With Care
Denial - Antichrist President
Possessed - Seven Churches
Testament - Burnt Offerings
Onslaught - The Force
Xentrix - Dilute To Taste
Realm - Suiciety
Exodus - Impact Is Imminent

Ah, the good old days..staying up overnights at the campus radio station, playing Nasty Savage and Agony Column on vinyl and fucking with drunks on the phone.
