I'm trendy (general rant)
I thought that with all of the rants going about, now would be a good time to start one of my own... so here goes:
Why is it that if a form of any entertainment isn't Japanese, it automatically sucks? It's not so much for music, but for even coverage I'll say that I only like 2 foreign language songs. Just 2. Why? Because I have no earthly idea what they are saying, and that irritates me. As far as television series, everyone catagorizes anything American as suck, as if there are no animes that suck. But on the same breath people bitch about such-and-such anime (personally I don't like Inuyasha or Yu Yu Hakisho) and declare that it sucks. Not suprising to me, but my favorite show that I have ever seen is Family Guy, and if I were to list I wouldn't reach an anime until four or five. But the complaining and bashing doesn't stop there. Now people are bitching that the Eva movie will be made by an American, so it will automatically suck, even though it is still only a concept. Now, understandably there are aspects that are irritating to me, but the sole factor of the producer's and director's nation origin never even crosses my mind if I am to consider a movie. I have yet to see a foreign film I liked, though granted I never looked and am not bashing foreign films and have only seen a few kung-fu movies. I don't really see why whether or not something is animated in Japan or America (I should say the United States) determines if it is good. In closing, I guess I can say that unless you have a good reason backed by personal experience, don't jump to conclusions on whether or not something will be enjoyable, especially if it is the determining factor is the national origin of the creator.

A lot of people have their views on how things are and wont budge. I like anime, but i don't like a lot of japanese music. I love family guy/futurama/simpsons more then most anime's i've seen. I hate a lot of the more modern cartoons you'll find on the kiddy channels or time slots on fox and cartoon network. When it comes to anime being made into live action movies (a lot of people automaticaly say it will suck and get pissed off), i don't care. If they make it good, the better, otherwise, why should i even bother with it if i wont watch it if it's bad? you don't HAVE to watch it or listen to it, yet people still complain about it. confusing to me

OMGWTFBBQ AMERKANS CNAT ANIMETE AND UR STUPID AND THE CNAT DREICT UR DUM
its fanboyism, plain and simple. its the same reason that when AMF bought harley davidson in the 80s and put their little logo next to the harley logo, there was a huge drop in sales, even though they were the same bikes. people want something to latch onto so they can put other things down.

I'm the flip side of the same coin. I think most anime sucks, and deem it guilty until proven innocent, but in the same breath bash most American television. The last anime I watched that I enjoyed was Memories, and before that it had been at least 6 months since I watched any anime that I enjoyed. The low budgeds and crappy animation aside, my gripe is the plot 90% of the time. And no, not the plot itself. The delivery. Inuyasha, Get backers, and DBZ are good examples of animes I loath. They are kiddy animes like pokemon. I can sniff one out from a mile away. Anyone with the inelligence of coaster can tell it's meant for double didgit IQ grade school children. I mean, when they stop fighting and other random characters (and even the people fighting) stop for no reason and begin explaining what's going on to NOBODY how fucking STUPID do the plot writers expect me to be? It's like they're writing the story for head trauma victims.
Then you've got shows like Chobits which are 26 eps, 25 and a half of which are filler. I don't remember much of it except that the ending was so stereotypical and cliche I fell to my knee's and screamed "KAHN!" and demanded those hours of my life back which I spent watching the show.
Then you've got shows full of asshats and whiny bitches. Hellsing is kind of like Chobits in that it has no plot and goes nowhere, but Alucard and the supporting cast are a bunch of shallow meaningless faces. What really drives the nail in the coffin though, is the fact that they had a perfectly good cast and story IN THE BLOODY MANGA! So why in GODS name did they have to go and deliberetly strip the charactersof everytyhing that made them who they were? And don't even get me started on Eva, Asuka's a bitch, shinji is a whiny bastard, Gendo is a class act prick, Rei is a robot, ( I've seen cardboard boxes emote more than she does) And everyone else in the show who's names arent important enough to remember suck too. Misato and Kaji were good, but Kaji was killed by some nameless mook midseries you don't even get to see, so it's basically Misato.
But hellsing and eva aside, you've got alot of nameless animes like Kousetsu Hyaku Monogatari (100 stories) which were so low budget, the backgrounds look like they were drawn by a 5 year old with his box of crayons. I guess growing up on disney I got jaded, but I like fluid and realistic motion in the characters movements. When I see fighting in a comedy series ( FMP: Fomoffu) better than a serious/martial arts anime (DB, DBZ, DBGT, Berserk, Scryed) simply because it got a better budget, I have to start wondering exactly why I should even watch series to begin with. I don't ever expect to see a series with animation as good as Berserk's or Evangelion's ever again. It's like the budgets on series are getting lower and lower.
As far as American Television is concerned, I revel in shows like West Wing, where at any given moment at least 11 things are going on at once, which stands in stark contrast to animes like Inuyasha or get backers that spoon feed you the plot as it goes along. This doesn't mean all anime sucks, just most of it.
In conclusion, Hellsing, Eva, Inuyasha, Get Backers, DBZ, Pokemon, Chobits, and alot of other animes I don't care to name at this moment suck.

So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab

yeah....

Jpop in general (IMO) isn't good, I like original Japanese singing (for the most part).
on a side note: I saw the tenchi ovas subbed for the first time. Blech, I prefer the dubbed version.
