Page Expired

Post by Alpha_Hazard » Mon Apr 05, 2004 1:10 pm

So I've just recently started using Internet Explorere, because my opera browser stopped working and reinstall didn't fix it. But in Opera I could press the back button from a vid description and go to the new downloads page, now it says "Page expired" when I press the back button. This is just one of the many frustrations I have to face, but it's the only real problem I have on the site...is there a setting I can change to stop this from happening because it literally drives me up the wall, what the hell else is a back button for but to take you back to where you just were, Even if it has expired!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would recommend Firefox: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

Or maybe try and find a way to reinstall IE.

does firefox support norton's web assistant? that's my main thing, because I cannot get certain websites to work without it.

Otherwise reloading works, but ti still pops up with this weird error saying it has to resend the request...and then asks me if I really want to do so. I'm tired of Internet explorer treating me like a dumbass you know... "Do you want to do this? Now, are you really sure you want to do this? I mean, because if you want to do this you may not realize how unsafe it is to do this" and I'm like FOR GOD SAKE JUST DO IT ALREADY AND STOP ASKING SO MANY DAMN QUESTIONS!...yeah, plus, it's a really annoying sound that it plays when it gives me the error messages..which I plan to change...because I can...yeah....anyway, If Firefox supports webassitant than sign me up.

It's appearently something that blocks ads and lets you set stuff for a broken browser. Um, I mean IE.

If this is true, then it's nothing that Firefox doesn't already have.

Like Zarxrax and trythil said, try FireFox. It's a nice browser with little plug-ins that I think are nice, but I chose Opera over FireFox mainly cause of system resources (p2 333 MHz with 384 RAM, you tell me).

I've never had page expired with a-m-v.org on any browser. I wouldn't know what the problem is...

switching browsers in not allways an option for people. I know i posted about the exact same thing. Saying use a different browser doesn't solve the problem. The reason Internet explorer does what it wants is that most of these pages work on POST rather than GET. It is a risk to repost information without confirmation. There should be links on the page for back and forward so the user doesn't have to use the back and forward buttons. The whole site is pretty much a useablility nightmare. Since a large amount of people use internet explorer something should be done about it. I know on my website, over 70% use internet explorer. You shouln't be saying deal with it and switch browsers. I know the forum doesn't have this problem becuase of the way it is coded. The site itself should probally also function in the same maner.

basically the thing is that Norton has a ad blocker that, outside of IE, is very complicated, involving puting exceptions on every part of a website, meaning that you have to make an exception for every link. rather than just the single ip address, like with web assistant in IE. I hesitate to use other browsers because I just don't have the time or energy to do so. but I'll give firefox a try because I don't really like IE anyway...it's too slow.

i have the google toolbar installed for IE so no pop-ups. although, i do like ZA's feature of turning of all the images.

You cna also disable image loading by going into IE > Tools > Options > Advanced > Scroll Down to Multimedia > Click the "show Image" off.

Hey,

But it makes a good excuse to promote a browser that is better than IE. Some people don't know that there are other browsers besides IE, let alone a number of browsers better than IE. Educating the ignorant is something we should do.

However, the get vs. post thing is not the answer. The "page expired" message is different from the "do you want to post information again" message. Why IE sometimes wants to tell you that the page is expired rather than re-pulling non-post pages is beyond me. I think there is a setting for it somewhere in the options because my IE doesn't have that issue when using the back button.

Phade.
