Giving up
I'm just wondering how often you do it on a project, and more importantly how to tell WHEN to throw in the towel so you don't waste the better years on your life on something you can't possibly finish.
So in other words, one part of the community is waging war on another part of the community because they take their community seriously enough to want to do so. Then they tell the powerless side to get over the loss cause it's just an online community. I'm glad people make so much sense." -- Tab

I don't normally give up very often. Usually I have a solid idea of what I want to do before I begin. I have dropped 4 videos in the 3 years I have been editing. All of them were a long time ago.
1. A live action Battle Royale video. I completed it about halfway and decided it was crap, so I stopped making it.
2. A video using Super Mario Bros images and graphics. I started it right after the Battle Royale vid. I worked on it maybe 1 or 2 days, realised I could not do what I wanted, and stopped.
3. A video in the style of Japanese MADs, started shortly after the Mario video. I worked on it maybe 2 days and again gave up, because I wasn't able to do what I wanted to do.
4. A Bubblegum crisis video. I don't really remember WHY I dropped this one... It was actually turning out pretty decent. I think I wanted it to be full of effect's and I didn't have the skill to pull them off yet.
More recently, I was about to cancel my "Can't Touch Her" video... but I decided to just release it as crap and see if I could trick people into thinking it was a good vid :p
But basically... I think having a solid idea of what you want to do is the most important thing. If you know what you want to do, then it's basically just a matter of figuring out how to do it, then doing it.

I was working on an Akira AMV with the Dead Kennedys song Police Truck, It was a solid idea. Then I discovered that Akira cannot be lipsynched. I mean scientifically impossible. Then I realised that I had about 30 seconds of actual usable footage. I think that one is more or less in the crapper but I may decide to start it up again simply out of spite.

It was the scenes I was trying to use. The scene where kaneda is walking out of the bar and getting onto his motorcycle didn't fit with the lyrics because it wasn't long enough, there just wasnt enough talking.Zarxrax wrote:Actually theres more than a couple really good lip sync vids ;p
Making sure you have all the footage you need though is one of the hardest parts. A lot of times I will envision this scene in my head, then when I get to that part, its like "OMG! THAT SCENE DOESNT EXIST IN THE ANIME!"
But I want to see these lipsynch vids, maybe I can use them as refrences for mine.

Note: Don't ever lend your amv cds to anyone. EVEN your best friends... -_- If you do at least make copies.
