You know... In a way this isnt a totally bad thing... I mean yeah, it's theft of an idea (even though he did say it was just a remaster) but truthfully, you really think caldwell gives a fuck?
I know I don't... How many "remasters" of picaso paintings are there? Not as perfect as the original maybe (flaws are the very perfections of art?) but when something is as well know as caldwells video (in this community) the person wasnt "stealing" he was doing just what he said... Remastering it.

Come on people, are you really watching them side by side? I think a lot of people have this idea that Kevin's Engel was actually a lot better than it actually is, and haven't taken the time to watch it again since a few years ago... This lip sync and timing in this remake are practically dead on accurate.dji wrote:Don't get me wrong, I'm not out to lynch people.. but I this is more a respect and a courtesy thing with me. Besides.. I looked at the "remastered" version.. and the lip-synch is off.. as well as a bunch of the timing. I don't think it does the original AMV justice, regardless of being "higher quality".
That's just my opinion.
As far as his right to make a remake... I support it. Does he have kevin's permission? No? But can he even GET kevin's permission? Hell no, he sure can't.
Why would someone even want to make a remake in the first place? Well for one thing, many people really love the video. And when you love a video, you want to see it in it's best form. The only existing copy of Engel is SHIT. Both the video and audio quality are horrible. Is it wrong for someone to want to see how the video would look at better quality? Is it wrong for someone to want to show the better quality to others who might happen to want to see the better quality as well? It was said earlier by someone, that if you make a remake, you should just keep it for yourself. While I can see that to an extent, the fact exists that maybe more people than just you would like to see it. And should every person that wants to see it have to make their own remake?
Now, I'm not saying that this video is a better version of Caldwell's. Cause its not. It screws up bigtime in spots. But I think peoples reasons for disagreeing with this video are off.
Just remember, a remake isnt a ripoff, its a tribute.

THere's other people that they should have to get permission from. Put your evangelion DVD in your DVD player and skip to the end credits. Then find Ramstien and ask them for permission. BY everyones logic, If all of these people agree to let you make this video then you can.
Did any one. NO. So then you should be sued and thrown into a concentration camp where you will be fored to watch Propaganda films. Because YOU STOLE FROM GIANAX THIEF.
Obviously people who were thiefs should not have any problem if somone steals from what they stole.

It's not an identical situation. Someone who makes an original AMV from existing footage and music is still doing significant creative work in the sequencing. Someone who "re-makes" an existing AMV, cleaning up the timing and image quality but not changing the sequencing, is adding a lot less creative input. I'm inclined to think that both activities can be legitimate, but there's a distinction between them.Sephiroth wrote:Obviously people who were thiefs should not have any problem if somone steals from what they stole.

OK then by that logic the evangelion Evevator Music AMV is just as guilty and wrong. In animation some people might just work on one sequance if it's really complicated, so the telephone wire scene in Metropolis that people like to show, lets say it was the only thing one guy that worked on Metropolis did. Then useing that scene in it's entirety without editing that scene is wrong because your not editing his work.

You missed the word "sequencing" in the post you replied to, which, I believe, was the whole point.Sephiroth wrote:OK then by that logic the evangelion Evevator Music AMV is just as guilty and wrong. Agreed, it's like a video game from along time ago, then you go back and replay it and think "what the fuck was I thinking?".Zarxrax wrote: Come on people, are you really watching them side by side? I don't understand why you think it makes a difference how many people worked on a given piece of input material. The point is how much you contribute. If you make creative decisions in editing a video, you are a video creator. If you don't, you are at best a video technician. Both can be important and worthwhile jobs.Sephiroth wrote:OK then by that logic the evangelion Evevator Music AMV is just as guilty and wrong. Quote from the editor. Keep in mind English is not his first language...
Actually, I start make it because this clip make me intrest in anime. And I usually use it to invite new members in comunity. This clip always work until one day my friend say: "What is that? Why you show me this low quality crap ...." This words born the idea inside of me to make this clip in the better quality. And I know that Kevin Caldwell newer shown on public, even his clips on a-m-v.org posted by other users....
Process of remaking goes about 6 months, but i do it for my personal goals, cause I'm the fan of this clip. It was difficult to make up my mind post it or not .... but if this clip make happy one person than this work isn't vain.
DON'T download it if you are fighter for copyrights and wait while Kevin Caldwell make this work. Sorry for my English. =)
P.S. I try to remove one entry at a-m-v.org and still waiting ....
