For me it’s completely dependent upon the video and the situation. I have both modes. Effects are fun and all, but really trying when it comes to moderation. At what point do you have to let go and try to salvage entertainment value? Of course when all else fails just toss in some flashiness and hypnotize you viewer into all 10's.

I like a subtle blend of the two: The best effects are the ones the viewer doesn't even know are there.
