codec help?

Post by Rabidfish01 » Mon Mar 29, 2004 12:00 am

many of the AMV's i have wont play due to not having codecs, windows media player trys to download the codecs but i get an error message every time. Last time my bud gave me a CD with a codec pack on it i installed it and it worked to play a few things but made it impossible to play DVD's in my DVD-ROM.

Can anyone give me a link to a website that i could download some good codecs from that wont kill my DVD fun times?

oh yeah im in college in Vermont on a 26.4k connection (bad 56k, never connects above 26.4k) so the smaller the file the better, haha. Ah, actually nevermind that, i can let my comp run overnight. I just want to watch the freakin AMV's that i painstakeingly (spelled wrong im sure) downloaded!

Most of the AMVs on this site are compressed with DivX or XviD. If you just want to play them, your best bet is to download ffdshow ( http://athos.leffe.dnsalias.com/ ), which is about a 1.2MB download. If you want to be able to encode those types of files, http://www.divx.com (DivX) and http://www.roeder.goe.net/~koepi/ (XviD) are where to get them.

And yeah, I know the dialup in VT sucks. Be patient, broadband is coming; I just got it myself in September.
