Huh?

How does EoE prove anything about anime and religion?

EoE conclusively shows that the result of the melding is, at best, confusing.

Eh...I'll have to disagree there.

One, I didn't think EoE was quite _that_ mindscrewing after watching it a few times.

Two, I'd like to pimp out Wings of Honneamise (more Gainax, hee hee) as a great example of how one can mesh serious religious material into anime.

Whatever is wrong with EoE .... I wasn't aware of it first time I saw it. Or the second time. Or when I watched it in slo-mo

Myself though, I still see more comedy opportunities than anything in 'religious' AMV's. There's little pastoral content in most anime... but, if someone there can twist some common title into a full-serious religious context, I'll 'have the faith' so to speak...
The Birds are using humanity in order to throw something terrifying at this green pig. And then what happens to us all later, that’s simply not important to them…

Well, trigun's been used in religous parodies before
like why don't you look into Jesus(typo I think).
I don't know, I think direct C-rock AMV's would give the
inpression of heavy faith overtones. That would make me
want to shut it off and now for a random religous joke

::jesus on the cross:::

Jesus: Paul?
Paul: yes, my lord
Jesus: Paul, I can see my house from here

(Starts running and ducks under his desk)

I should point out that Paul didn't even enter the picture until a while after Jesus' death.

And I'm pretty sure he was beheaded anyway.

*shrugs* Oh well.

Despite NGE's use of religious symbols, I never think if it as having been mixed with religion. I've kinda gotten it stuffed into my head that the religious names are simply code names for these awesome powers that be and bear no real substantial connection to religion itself. It is a fictional world after all. The year 2000 has past us and Antarctica is still here.

I think making a Christian AMV would be pretty heavily dependent of the song though. But with the right one...I think you could portray any message even with the most unlikely of anime. Well..........maybe not the MOST unlikey but you know what I mean.

My favourite religious Trigun AMV is this one: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members ... hp?v=17771. It's not exactly a traditional interpretation of Christianity, but that's part of what makes it good.

I would like to see videos dealing with the themes brought up in Haibane Renmei - that show never actually explicitly mentions religion at all, but it seems to be exploring the traditions of Purgatory and salvation and so on pretty deeply. I actually found it quite inspirational, but that's no doubt partly just because of my own fucked-up internal issues.

Darn the need to refine that joke a bit :)

There's plenty of useful footage in Anime if you want to display Christian symbols, Christian acts, and even Christian philosophies, but if you want to get to the ultimate point (that we're all sinners, cannot save ourselves from damnation, and therefore need to accept Christ's blood sacrifice in order to be saved), the AMV's song is going to have to carry that message on its own. So far, I haven't been able to find a song that does that.

Still, I did manage this little gem of an AMV, of which I'm very proud, even though it's more a negative message about the futility of life without God than a positive promotion of life with God. (In other words, a refutation of the stupid philosophy promoted in John Lennon's evil song "Imagine."):
