vBulletin?

Has it been considered changing the forum over to vBulletin? It seems like a much nicer forum than phpBB. It looks like it gives you a ton more control and features.

I personally like IPB over vB, but vB3 has Related Threads feature that may be very useful.

Yes, it seems that IPB is the nicer of the forum systems that I've seen. If I had to switch, that is what I would use.

Hey,

One of the big things that IPB does that phpBB does not is moderator/admin action logging. If someone is warned or banned or a forum post is moved or modified or anything like that, a log is kept of who did it, when, and a note why. That in itself would make running the forum MUCH better from an admin point of view when you need to know what happened. There are many other features that are better, but that's the big one that I can think of off the top of my head.

I think that a vB is a very good idea. I own 2 licenses myself and I enjoy them very much. Although if I didnt have them I would use IPB. Anyways, a vB seems like a much better option for the users and it also has many option for the admins that other boards simply dont offer. Not only that there is a library of hacks that can be shared. Quick reply is one that would be much appreciated and how about some avatar packs. Sure this phpBB is doing it job but it could be much better imho. Not only that its not hard to skin a vB template. I think with phpBB there are more sections to skin. (Not sure on that tho.) I honestly think that this forum could use more hacks. Things that will make it easier for everyone. Also most people relate proffesionalism with the vB and thats why alot of bigger established forums have them. They arent popular for no reason. vB has a much better reputation than other boards.

While I'm here suggesting this (and i know phade will see it), wtf is up with the 2 weeks probationary period? I registered here a long time ago and when I did there was no probationary period. That was probably two years ago. Now that I have more time for anime I am getting back into vids and i find that i have to wait 2 weeks. I have like 11 days right now and while I dont need a fix (like some members here who would probably shoot up a liquid form of a-m-v.org), I would like to get to the point of registering here and watch some vids. Sure the indirect and direct videos are available but what about the locals! On the top 50 there are less than 10 I can download! Thats a crock of shit. I dont know if you get to view them right away if you donate (which i was already planning on doing) but thats really messed up. Im sure more people actually leave within 2 weeks of no local downloads then actually stay. A probationary period of 1 week would not make me bitch as much. Then I would have what like 4 days. I can wait 4 days, whoopdie-fuckin-doo. I know you have reasons on why this is the way they are but why 2 long weeks?

I personally like the fact that the .org forum interface isn't cluttered with tons of useless crap. That, to me, is more professional than some big name or whatever.

The local download option was not available two years ago, thus no need for a probation period.

There is a two week probation period for local downloads for new members. There are a few reasons for this:

1. It is the policy of this site that a member should have only one site account. It is the hope that given a two week local download probationary period, you will be more likely to try to keep your old account in good order instead of just creating a new account whenever you feel like it.

2. The probation is also to keep people from pledging, defaulting on their pledge, and then getting a new account to download vids. New members who donate will have this probationary period waived and may download as soon as the donation is received and recorded.

This message should appear whenever an attempt is made to download a local video. Is this explanation ambiguous or confusing? With the new instant recording tool, you can donate via PayPal and have instant access to local vids. If a donation it too much for you, two weeks of time is the alternative payment for the privilege to download from the Org's servers. You can download any of the externally hosted videos immediately and anonymously.

First off I know how to read very well thank you. Secondly I know that you are trying to get donations. That was not the point of the thread but i guess somewhere in assuming i am too stupid to read and insulting me you didnt quite grasp the subject. The subject, for those with IQ's the same as thier age, is why two weeks. Now before you go thinkint that you answered this are you suggesting that if someone doesnt donate you are withdrawing services because someone wont pay for a site that you should be paying for yourself?

Personally I dont like being nasty but when I feel someone who should have the experience and most the responsibillity to run a nice site with forums like should be able to address me without insulting my sensitive feelings. I see this many times and it seems that people want respect without earning it reguardless to whether they want it or not.

I'm sorry. I did not meant to offend. (After re-reading my post, I can see how that could come across). For some reason, nearly every day, someone writes me an email and asks why there is a probation period. I was just wondering if the message itself was not showing up or was confusing and thus the reason why I get so many questions about it.

Anyway, the reason it's two weeks is because that is the amount of time I guessed would be the optimal to deter people from pledging, defaulting, and signing up again vs. those who cannot afford to donate even $1 to the site to keep it running.

For the first three years, I did pay for the site myself. This past year, however, the site's financial needs have outgrown my ability to keep up. The site currently costs about $2,500 per month. There is NO way I'm going to foot that kinda bill myself. Donations are the only way to do it. If you think that I've overpaid for the near 8TB of transfers for last month and near 8.5TB of transfers this month, please let me know where I can get cheaper bandwidth.
