WIP - Angel's Redemption - some public opinions wanted

Post by Bakadeshi [AuN Studios] » Sun Mar 28, 2004 11:59 pm

Need some opinions on the way i'm going about with this video.
Especially viewers who do not know the series "Ayashi no Ceres"

The theme of the video is outlining the Darker side of the series, mostly about Aya's tragedies that happen to her because of her fate, and her conflict with the Angel inside her, Ceres

Does the footage make sence to you as to what I want you to see?
Such as the guy that gets shot at 0:55, did you connect that as her father?
also the white flashing effect that begins at 1:11, is this overkill or you like?
fast Scenes at 2:02 to end - timming good or could be better?

Anything else you think could be better or don't like or like about it you can comment on aswell. Thanks.

This is a work in progress, hence, in keeping in complience with the sticky message up top, the file size is small and quality pretty poor to give you a quick download. This is roughly the first half of the AMV.
File size is only 14 megs.

The flow is wonderful and footage-to-song mood is very consistent. The over all mood - to - clip placement is well thought out because I have never seen this anime, and yet the story is still very clear. Starts off with something of a history of this girl, and builds to where she is now. The effects in the start are well placed and tasteful, however some of them at the end of the beta were not as smooth, like at around 2 minuets and the floating boxed images. I can’t quite place my finger on it, but something about that part just doesn’t fit.

Very nice anime to song choice with wonderful clip placement and footage editing. A lot of what makes this peace great is the action sync on both effects and actual footage movement are well thought out and tactfully put together.

FINNISH IT
 :!:

VERY nice. This looks like it's shaping up to be an awesome video. I also havn't seen the series but it make good sense to me although after 1:43 my enjoyment went down a bit cause I lost track of what was going on and it didn't seem to work as well for me. Overall though I loved it, the effects were amazing and the timing was great. It also is very dramatic and powerful, the words on the screen do a great job of creating tension. A couple of annoyances: 0:30 The legs in this picture are kind of distracting. 0:45 I didn't like the horizontal lines, just straight flashes or even better some other effect would have been nice here. 1:04 I see what your trying to do with the flash back images but there a little quick. You still get the idea that it's someone important but it's vague unless you watch real closely or pause it. 1:08 I like this fading effect but it's a little low motion compared to the scenes around it. 1:33 there were some aspect ratio issues and here it's particularly bad, get all the footage in the same ratio. 1:55 sometimes the film effect has a bit too much distortion in my opinion. The scenes at the end were good except for a jitter at 2:08, the scene right before the one with two guys and the girl up in the air might have a extra frame or something, it seems to "jump" a little bit.

A very promising video. Keep up the good work!

Thanks a bunch for the detailed critique, it helps alot.
Some of the things you guys pointed out I didn;t even notice until you pointed them out, so its a big help.

The bands at 0:45 actually is just interlace artifacts, its just streight flashes in the original, and won't be in the final rpoduct. Same with the Aspect ratio thing, I just couldn't get it to resize to 320X240 properly with it. It shows properly at 720X480. So Ignore those 2 things, they are just encode defects.

I agree on the film effect being a little bold at 1:55, I wanted to see if someone else picked up on that, now that I got confirmation I think I will reduce it a bit.

1:08 I thought the same exact thing.... that it seemed a little low motion compared... just couldn't think of anything better to put there....

Something about the end scene bothers me, just can't pick out what exactly, I will wait for more feedback from others on that. I think i kinda see what you meant at 2:08 though. I will see what i can do with it.

Everything else you guys mentioned I will take into consideration in my editing. Glad you guys are liking it so far, you have renewed my energy to work towards completing it ;p

Thanks again!

...and thus, the idea for a WIP sticky has already more then payed for itself. ^_^

 Thanks, but I can't really take credit, if it weren't for Read ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides it would look just as crappy as what everyone expects from a first vid.

The quality is bad because its a work in progress and it's deliberately over-compressed.

But I'm looking forward to see it as well and when your finished I'll give it a full review. Glad we could help!

that it has.

Its my first try at this kind of video, so I was nervous about it ;p (not my first video mind you, just first action with alot of effects.)
I tried to use other good videos as examples as to the placement of effects in the video, but with my own ideas I planned out for this particular peice.

I've already used some of your pointers, and am working towards completing the rest of it. I'll be sure to post in announcements when its done. Thanks for the help ^^
