Do people take the date an AMV was created into account?

Anyways, I always always take the time period into account from a technical standpoint. Grainy footage and other visual "deficiencies" don't effect the video at all for me, especially when we were all hooking up our PS2's and VCR's to our DC10's for footage capture.
Hell, I don't even think footage quality really affects my opinion of videos nowadays. The only reason I would even mention it is, in most cases, there now is just really is no excuse to have nasty footage (though me mentioning it and me being at all bothered by it are two very different things).
I find myself readily forgiving the mouthflap too, but I think that is more a nostalgia thing than anything else (as it is very distracting for me to watch a new video with mouth flap).

I always look at the creation date when I download a vid from the org. That allows me to tune my judgement as far as picture quality is concerned.

I don't care about what editing tools were available 5 years ago... I can love a video with only cuts, even if it's recent.

However, I must admit that while I have no problem watching blurred and noisy vids that I discovered a few years ago, it's tougher to like old vids I discover today. I have the old ones I love, and it's very difficult for other old ones to join them.
I must be sentimental with my first AMVs.

It all depends on what aspect you want to consider with the date of creation. Such as capture and other technical issues should be taken into consideration in a negative point of view, because a video can always be updated or remastered to meet the demands of today's requirements. But when it comes to originality, audio and how the video was edited, can those attributes be re-made or updated? The answer in most cases is a simple No.

Originality definately depends on 'when' the idea was made.

When I watch a video, I tend to not look at anything that makes up the video, but the video itself.

I think thats why Euphoria, while astectically pleasing, just wasn't OMG TEH MOST AMAZING VIDEO EVER, while Digital Oordikumababa or whatever, while somewhat lacking in quality in places, always gets me up and moving.

Was just going to make a post about this same topic. I don't mind people reviewing my older videos, but take into account that it's older. If you see it was made in 2000, and in the notes it says it's one of my first videos, make a comment about how you realize it's an old video.

I just got a review on one of my ancient videos, that told me practice makes perfect. WHAT! They sounded like they were trying to tell me I would improve in my video editing skills, not realizing that yes I indead have and have other videos. (sigh)

Yeah, I've been told in a large handful of recent reviews on my old AMVs to "Keep at it. Some day you'll get there."

Oh well, these reviews mean no harm for the most part, and I do dig that people still download my old vids, so I got nothing really to complain about.

Oh and Esrhan, not to pick on you, but that is a rather silly point of view to take. Viewing 3, 4 and even 5 year old videos and harping on them because they didn't remaster it to fit your little standard of "good video quality" is pretty absurd. Editors want to move forward, and not remake every one of their old videos for the soul reason of keeping them on the cusp of aesthetically pleasing by the day's standards.

That's a cool idea, but it would be tough to do since fewer people have seen the older videos. I'd hazard to say a majority of people have gotten into AMVs in the last few years, and they would mainly know the videos that have been popular more recently.

i like older vids.. like Dreams of Red... and stuff.. this newer stuff thats out is too easily edited and too flashy... people like flashyness though... *When i op a vid i look at the date it was made, then go from there.. i know i sucked at making amvs in 2002... so i dont judge that harsh on older vids... thumbs up to veteran amv creators!!*

I was being sarcastic when I said this in my LJ a while ago, but there is a grain of truth to it - most of America was bought from the natives with shiney beads and trinkits and the same holds true for AMV audiences :-\ (not that I never used beads and trinkits though

)
