EGH! Brain no understand [DVD pricing]
ARGH, my brain can't work around the stupid logical of business.
WHY oh WHY is the Lain box set more expensive than buying each dvd separately? Why is the signatures series versions cheaper than the regular.
Why does a box set of only 4 dvds and 13 episodes, cost just as much as series with 26 episodes? (ie - berserk, gasaraki)
Why does anime box sets cost more than other tv series box sets? Like Angel, to buy the entire series, it only cost about 40-60 bucks and that's for 20+ episodes. I want to say because they import them, but aren't these official releases owned by american companies and made here?

box sets and signituer sets cost more becouse they are nicer so you are paying for a nice little box or a little 'signiture' on the box. anime is more then american shows becouse less people buy it so it has to make its money some how. this also explains why they put less episodes on a dvd. i cant explain the lain thing "why it costs less then a regulare series" other then the ppl who made it want to charge more.
i dont know if this is right but this is what iv heard and lead to belive

The Lain Box lists for $120, the original version of each disk lists for $30, so if you were paying list price, you'd pay the same amount either way. With online discounts, it happens to work out cheaper to pick up the individual disks.Kracus wrote:WHY oh WHY is the Lain box set more expensive than buying each dvd separately? As for the Signature Series, Pioneer/Geneon is rereleasing a number of its earlier releases under their new name as "Signature Series" releases. They have a lower price, but an ugly red banner across the top of the packaging. From what I understand, there's no difference in what's actually on the disks, only the packaging.
Pioneer/Geneon's box sets have always been expensive in comparison to other companies'. Look at Fushigi Yuugi (I still can't afford to pick one of my favorite series up). Berserk and Gasaraki are by Media Blasters and ADV, respectively.Kracus wrote:Why does a box set of only 4 dvds and 13 episodes, cost just as much as series with 26 episodes? (ie - berserk, gasaraki)
Yeah, probably the licensing fees make them more expensive.Kracus wrote:Why does anime box sets cost more than other tv series box sets? With this one I was talking about the signature series prices for 17 bucks on rightstuf. A red banner across the top doesn't bother me. I'm not watching the packaging. I still fail to understand how that bothers anyone. But whatever.JHU Battousai wrote:The Lain Box lists for $120, the original version of each disk lists for $30, so if you were paying list price, you'd pay the same amount either way. not for me, if it were cheaper, I'd buy it. As I do today, when I find a good price on something, I buy it. I bought gasaraki when it was on sale for 30. If series were around 40 and 50, I'd buy them. I bought season 1 and 2 of Angel, cause I got them for 40 each.yea i think so to. but then again if it was cheeper and you could get it for free from the internet or really really cheep bootleg would you buy it. most ppl wouldnt. and the offical stuff could never compet with bootleg prices so its like a visious cycle
Same goes with music, I'm not spending 20 bucks for 10-13 songs or 18 for that matter, especially when I haven't even heard the whole thing. That's why if I know I'm probably gonna want it and like it, I'll go to best buy when it first comes out or I go to Amazon and get it used.
