Odd question.. and about AMV ideas

Post by OtakuForLife » Thu Mar 18, 2004 4:06 pm

Ok, I found this Rancid video - Under The Red Hoot Moon to
Hellsing. I loved the idea ,but, when I saw the video I was
disapponeted in the lack of quailty and storyline. But, I liked
the idea alot... So, scenes for a second version keep going through
my mind... Am I allowed to redo that video if so, do I need that persons
premission or something?

I've redone a few noob videos for my liking, like fixing up some sync and maybe removing subs for my benefit. However, I don't publisize these as my own work. In fact, I don't even put them in the database. But then again, it's really they're video, just souped up.

What you want to do is basically use the same concept but make it completely different. In that wya, I don't think you're stealing anything. Just because someone did a Chop Suey video profiling... Shinji doesn't mean that if you want to do one you need to credit them. I mean, so many people have done Shinji profiles to Chop Suey, who would you credit anyway?

However, If it were me, I'd just put in a "Original concept by [name/url here]" in the video info to make me feel better.

Since you're not really 'stealing' certain scenes and putting them in the same place, I don't think asking permission is needed.

I had an idea to do a Cowboy Bebop video to Kid Rocks Cowboy, which has been done a couple times over so I was just gonna mention that in the title and call it "Cowboy - Version 7" Or whatever number of the same idea that was.

It can't be helped if two people want to do the same video I guess, but if you want to use some of the same scenes and key concepts then it would be best to ask the creator of the original what they think about it.

Sometimes for really original, or big videos it's best to let it go with just one. I don't think anyone should ever attempt another Battle Athletes - Believe video (Kevin Caldwell's) ...

I made 'The World She Knows after watching canal-chan's video 'The World I Know'.

Granted I used a different anime but they are both fit the drama, serious, character profile categories. When I saw his/her? video I was reminded of one of my favorite songs and gears started turning. I felt I could do better and so I made my video. I have yet to hear anyone complain and I've received at least one op from someone I know who has seen canal-chan's vid saying they enjoyed my video. I don't think it really matters too much (thinks of DBZ/LP). People might say something if it was simlar to a popular video, but I think that if I made something similar to one of those I was still upload it(As long as it isn't scene-for-scene or parts of the original AMV aren't in there). People can say what they want.
