I'd say forum presence only matters on this site's awards and I'd say that's not the entire picture either. People like Aluminumstudios, Kusoyaro and Fluxmeister don't post that often, yet make great videos that most people recognize.
I wasn't really talking about winning awards; by "recognition" I meant the more general concept of people getting to know one's (screen) name.

It's true!

Less time spent on the forums = better videos.

I felt like punching the screen when I read that. Of course, all that would accomplish was a bleeding hand and a 200$ bill, so I didn't do it.

I strive all the time to get noticed on this website. That's one of the reasons I flame Koop and AD all the time. They have all the equipment they need, they have all the ops they need, they have all the fans they need. And I can't get any of that.

All I have is WMM2, and it's physically impossible to get noticed when your using that (unless your Mexican Junior, who, I might point out, no longer uses WMM). I want ops, and lots of them. I'm willing to exchange...as long as the vid is around 50 megabytes or less. I run off 56k and have WMM, so the chance of fame for me is little to none.

One word: Arigatomyna.

And the only fan mail I've ever gotten, as far as I can remember, was over my very first video, which I made with WMM1.

There are plenty of great videos out there that are simple enough, from an editing standpoint, that they could have been made with WMM.

As has been pointed out before, submitting to conventions helps; you might want to try that if you haven't already.

Ummm, why? I seriously don't understand this. Don't you enjoy making videos? At the end don't you get a sense of satisfaction watching it and going 'I did that'? Don't you feel any pride at saying 'Yeah, this was better. I'm improving'? Why is being recognized needed for you?

And she doesn't do it for fame, she does it for herself. And on top of that, her videos are an unpopular genre. It just takes a lot of effort, and some time. But it's possible.
Kusoyaro: We don't need a leader. We need to SHUT UP. Make what you want to make, don't make you what you don't want to make. If neither of those applies to you, then you need to SHUT UP MORE.

Heh, all this talk about recognition and popularity, and all I can think about is the fact that Scintilla has a link to one of my sister's vids in his signature. I still, still find that absolutely amazing. My sister can suprise me sometimes. 8)

Now that I can agree with completely.

I'd feel sympathy if you didn't have such shallow selfish desires.

I'm sure MJ got popular through having a good attitude and being a cool guy in general despite the programs he had to work with. All of us were nobodies at one time, but the ones who are still going and are well recognized were the ones who didn't complain about fame. :?
